Assigning Officers to Boarded vessels problem

Heretik

Privateer
Storm Modder
Hey guys, I might post this in the mods forum if nobody is having this problem (it could be the supermod). I am having a problem with capturing vessels with unassigned officers. My Tactics skill is 5, and I only have one boat with two readily available officers - one from Isla Mona, and the other from Bridgetown. Though I have had qualms with the English in the past - right now I am actually under contract of the letter of Marque. Is there something about the officer's loyalty that prevents you from naming him captain of the new boat? I have an officer that I have assigned to a captain before, but now I do not have the option to capture the vessel. Ever. Not even with New Officers.

Any thoughts? Anyone with the same problem?

Here's one with the same problem...
I don't think it's loyalty, seeing as 'good' isn't good enough then.

There are a couple of reasions that you may not be able to assign a captain to a captured ship.

1. Since you say you have 5 tactics points you obviously know the requirements of 2 points for each additional ship, but if you are escorting a ship, then it will consume two of your points which will prevent you from capturing an extra ship if you only have 4 points.

2. Your officer must be unassigned prior to entering the ship capture screen. You have to go to the F2 character screen and remove an officer from his post. This can be done before boarding, or even after you have defeated the enemy captain in his quarters.

However, if an officer is not removed before boarding and the ship surrenders automatically, you will not have access to the F2 screen, and will not be able free up an officer to capture the ship.

I realize that none of this is logical, but then neither is paying salaries to your pirate crew and officers.

If your situation is different than the conditions mentioned, then I guess there is just another bug to add to the many already listed.

Cheers

*Sigh.... another bug then... Although it is very good to know about the escorting of the ship. I guess for the information of whomever, I do have the required tactics, and even when I am not escorting a ship, and my officers are not assigned, I still have this problem. Thank you anyways - both of you!

may depend on what class of vessel youre trying to put him in command of. if it is too high and our officer is too low itll take away from your tactics. had that happen to me once with this problem

Wait, what do you mean by if the ship is too high, and the officer is too low? What skills does the officer have to be strong in to commandeer the boat? Although it's been a while since I have played (and may yet be a while the way work is piling up this week) I believe that I had tried to board and capture a grand variety of ships. I like to do that, because it brings in a massive profit. A boat for all your goods until you get to a port where you sell the goods, and the boat that you don't need. Yeah- anyways, I guess I think I have tried a few boats that are lower, along with some newer boats, but I am curious to test out your theory and then post some kind of rule for it, if there is indeed one.

Thanks!

had a officer with a rank of 9 and i put him command of a SoL while i rolled around in a corvette and since his rank was too low (11 to command class 1 ships) it dropped my tactics and i could only have 2 ships in my squadron when i should have been able to have 3

Aye, I've noticed the same thing. Your ability to command your squadron apparently does not just depend on your own level, but the levels of the NPC's you put in charge of the captured/additional vessels. Too low a level NPC and suddenly you can't capture a ship. So you need to keep some decent level NPC's around free and clear to command higher level ships for you.

so do you need NPCs with a high tactics skill? Or do you just need them to be of a high enough level? And thanks for everything so far guys <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Just posting this here as well as to the capturing ships thread. :

If you check the manual, its says something about the effects of officers being to modify your skill according to the difference between yours and his. I'm wondering if something similar happens when you give an officer his own command. Maybe each ship commander DOES need to have points added to thier Tactics skill, Heretik. But I'm not entirely sure. I'd say we are over all on to something of how the game works here though.

I'm also having the same problem with assigning officers to captured ships.

But, i did try capturing lesser ships as i noticed someone else tried this and it worked.

It also worked for me too.

thanks.
