Aubrey/Maturin

capt cookie

only pops in now and then.
Good afternoon mates.
Just wanted to know how many of you have ever read Patrick o'brien's masterpeices the Aubrey/Maturin series. I find them to be the most interesting novels on the Napoleanic era of sailing and the british navy that I have ever read.

Aye, Fred Bob done jus' be startin' Book 20 in de series! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Dis be his THIRD time through by de way! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I finished the series a couple of months ago, a favourite of mine. I'm actually looking forward to re-reading the whole series again sometime in the future, maybe a year or two down the track.

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Reading the series as well. I bought the hardcover omnibus edition and I think I'm on volume 4 (out of 5) at the moment. I've been reading the novels one by one, reading other books in-between, wanting to make the pleasure last longer.

I think I'll start from the beginning rather soon after I've read the final (unfinished) story. I simply cannot imagine living without the company of these characters!

Very good books indeed, you really grow and love the characters. Like who knew Maturin would finally get *blank* with *blank*, I was really glad for the guy. (No spoilers here <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> ) Im currently on volume 4 of the collective works. I cant wait to finish the series but at the same time, what am I going do after? lol I hope there will be a 2nd movie in the works one day. There are so many great scenes that could be used from the books and ships as Aubrey doesn't always have the Surprise.

Besides, where else can you learn to cuss like a sailor?

"oh....that wretched lubber....i said no pickles....fie on him"

Ahoy Cookie!
Long time no sea! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I circumnavigated this series and enjoyed it very much, but I can't do a re-read like FB, cause I gave my copies to my father, and the books are now making the rounds among my brothers. I should get them back sometime next century. (I have a lot of brothers ....)

Hope you are well, and good to see you again! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />
