back again =P

mooo

Landlubber
hello i'm back again with another problem <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

this time, when i talk to smugglers in taverns, they never show up where they say they will (never show up at all) i'll go back and ask to sell goods again, but the second time they say finish 1st business first

could this have something to do with build 11?

Never heard of anyone having any problems with the smugglers not showing up before, are you sure you went to the right beach?

If you have a game saved where you set up a rendevous with the smugglers, and if they don't appear at the beach they said they would, then the only thing I can think to try is to go to all of the beaches on that island and see if they show up on any of the other ones. Make sure you have the contraband goods before you go.

How did things work out with the Tobias quest? Were you able to get past the French blockade?

Make sure you search well in the meeting point . I don't remember in which island but the place were you have to meet with the summgler , you will find him is hiding behind a big rock were you are not able to see him from the position were standing so you have to move around a bit .

for the smugglers, i ran around every other place on the island, even went 1 zone farther (into the jungle), but didn't see 'em. i've been to smuggler cities, but not there

i finally made it past the blockade, thanks (one of my ships sank though.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />: <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )

Hmmm,....
When I am dropping off some contraband onto the local smugglers, I usually sail my ship to whatever beach the smuggler in the tavern directs me to and disembark and usually find them waiting for me.

One time I recall landing at Octopus Bay on Fdf, the French were annoyed with me for blowing up their fortress so many times, and making arrangements with the smuggler at the tavern and when I went back to Octopus Bay, (on foot) the smugglers were open for business. I'm tempted to say that your ship has to be present at the beach during a smuggling transaction for it to work, I won't swear to it, but give it a try and let us know what happens.

Something that can happen during a smuggling transaction leads me to think that my theory is correct, and if I am being vauge it is only because I do not want to ruin the surprise for you or anyone else.

If you can, give it a try and let us know if you are able to complete your smuggling transaction. I'll do some experimenting as well and see myself. There is a learning curve to the game that makes you develop your "POTC Logic" that those of us who have been playing the game for about a year all have, but may not automatically make sense to newer buccaneers.

Glad you made it past the blockade, not sure how you had more than one ship while effecting your escape with Tobias, but I'm always interested in learning something new. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

ok, 1st: i use the sail to command, so my ship(s) is/are there...the only thing i can think of is, if my goods aren't in my ship, but one of my captain's, then the smugglers won't be there

i had 2 ships with me on the blockade actually, 1 a trader i had to escort that i didn't do b/f, the other 1 of 2 of my captain's ships

thanks everyone

That makes sense, I'll try to recreate that in my game and see what happens. You're right, I thought you were walking to the smuggler's rendezvous as opposed to using the "sail to" feature.

Let me know if you are playing the game with the Build or the mods or not. The original game is a little less forgiving in that it will sometimes give you misinformation, and then screw up your reputation and leave you wondering just exactly why.

I am playing with Build 11, and like I said I would do in my last post, I set up a smuggler rendezvous and walked to Palm Beach and when I got there I found the smugglers, but they said I needed my ship to effect the transaction. I then tried skipping the first smuggling job and went to Oxbay and set up another one; I completed this transaction.
Doing this effectively cancelled my first rendezvous because when I went back to Palm Beach there were no smugglers present, and when I went to the tavern on Douwesan, the smuggler let me set up a completely new rendezvous which went fine when I did "sail to" to Palm Beach.

Which ship sank when you ran the blockade at Oxbay, the trader ship you were escorting? This is just another theory, but maybe that is what is causing the problem with the smugglers. Is the escort mission still in your quest book?

I have to hand it to you mooo, you come up with some of the best questions that I have seen around here. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />
I hope we can help you get things back on tack, but I haven't had to deal with the situations you're bringing up.

Let us know:
1. Whether you are playing the original game without modifications, or a modded game, and what mod(s) or Build you are using.

2. What unfinished quests you have in your quest book.

3. What island is giving you trouble with the smuggling.

This way if your game set up is compatible with someone who is viewing the site, they may know exactly what you need to do to remedy the situation that is currently giving you trouble. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

ok, i got it ok, and think i know what it could have been

by the way, my reputation at one point did suddenly go from dashing to scoundrel, just for sailing a few days!

1. i use build 11 and rafe's "weathered ships"

2. right now, the "deliver chest" (told in journal to go talk to the guy who set me `up-so` the pirates say), the blacue family (something like that, but it isn't a real quest as far as i know, just says how the guy in falaise de fleur is looking for his long lost son's ship cleopatra), and i think that's it.

3. conceicao

also, i always had the goods on my ship, but it doesn't matter (the smugglers take it from all ships)

now smuggling works for me on douwesen (the only reason it might not've worked is b/c i did or two quests b/t talking @ the tavern, and actually going to the bay)

thanks, i'm fine w/it (don't ALWAYS need to smuggle <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> , though VERY good pay -690 rum i got almost 200000 gold!!!!!!), but if it's a bug maybe it can be addressed in build 12? (if there is on)

thanks all <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cheers.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="cheers.gif" />: <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Glad everything is working out, I may try a smuggling venture to Conceicao just to see if I get any kind of strange outcome . I'll let you know if do and if I get any.

Reputation has all sorts of odd things going on with it apparently, but at least you can always rescue a few girls and get it right back up.

See you around, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

<b>mooo, </b>the Blacque Family quest is indeed a side quest of the game, you should follow it through... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Sir Christopher is right, you do ask good questions! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Sir Christopher, when you tried to test the smugglers situation, did you go back to Douwesen with the same contraband cargo?

Lady Cat,
Yes I did. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
I didn't notice that I ran into any problems because of doing that, it was like it never happened. All to the good, says me!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Lady Cat, how is your move going? Hope all is well with you and your cats. With all the work you did on the new quest, you deserve a long vacation! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

mooo,
I did try a smuggling run to Conceicao, Pirate Sam, in one of the earlier posts, is right; for smuggling runs on Conceicao you have to rendezvous with the smugglers on Sunny Haven Beach, (Sunny Haven sounds like a good spot for shady activities, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ) and the smugglers are pretty well hidden. If you are facing the shore, with your back to the water, you have to head right until you come upon a fairly sheltered location among the rocks. The smugglers are set up inside the group of rocks and it is easy to miss them.

My apartment is utter crud at the moment. Walls are being painted, the tub drains slowly, I have a constant drip drip drip from the faucets in the bathroom and the kitchen, my refrigerator is still on the service porch, some of the windows in my bedroom are painted shut.... I could go on... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" />

On the brighter side, my cats seem to be settling in - they are not *perfect* yet, but they are better. I spent the night last night for the first time in my new bedroom - with the kitties - and they settled right in... Nice cool night, perfect sleeping weather, all the windows (except for the ones painted shut) were open... Afternoon sunshine is on the bed, which is nice for a nap after lunch! I now have a oven that WORKS! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

And I spent the day sitting at the computer messing about with a new character skin while the owner painted walls... I'll put up a topic to show off a first draft... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Life is not perfect, but I guess it never will be exactly right (this house was built in 1896!) - I should be grateful the owner was willing to do all this...

Thanks for asking! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> So am I, mooo, so am I! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Actually if I'd been *really* mean, I'd have been playing PotC while the owner painted - instead of making a new character skin... At least the `re-skin` looked like I was doing something constructive. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I now have a oven that WORKS!  <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That great, ...what's an oven? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

An oven is when you are sleeping with someone under blankets, and you... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ...Umm, nevermind. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Oh, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ..... I thought that was a Douwesan Oven! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />:

Sure... On Douwesen it's an Isla Muelle Oven! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Reminds me of a silly old gag - I think from Peter Ustinov - "It's called a French horn - however the French call it an English horn." It was a skit/song about how he annoyed the neighbors with the playing of his horn until it mysteriously disappeared... Funny as heck... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

....lol <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
