Bad Bad Boarding Bug ... BE GONE! I command thee!

Ahoy me hearties, yoho!

As Pieter has hinted ... or rather he wrote the magic word - RELOAD, in another thread ... the filthy boarding bug can be worked around by seeking consol(e)ation.

1) Open your "..\PROGRAM\console.c" file
2) Go buttoms up, stare at them code lines and count'em ... 9 to be exact
3) Remove the comment slashes so the line reads "LAi_EnableReload();"
4) Think "Generic Mod Enabler" just for good measure
5) Play that POTC big beautiful build thing and board'em bad and big time. Be victorious!
6) Wait till your man sheets his sword automatically ... wait ... wait ... he is still swinging his thing .... #¤&/"/&% ... arghh buggar you have been bugged by the bad boarding bug but fear not! Sheet your thing yourself by pressing "E", loot them laisy lousy 'good for nothings' laying around the deck and now .... <drumroll> ... PRESS F12 ... and TADA you are free to proceed!
7) Rinse and repeat step 6) whenever confronted by that bugged beast called the 'boarding bug'!

I think I fixed that problem couple a weeks ago. After that I done many boardings without problems.

I didn't publish anything yet because I have encounter more bugs. There were serious problems whith animist quest, making it completely unplayable. I started to encounter "ghost ships" (seen at sea, absent on radar). I believe that both of this are caused by so called "corpses", which are handled differently in various places - for instance, program permits to put ship at sea with dead captain, but loading something like this to any location (to talk with surrendered captain) is a disaster. So now I'm fighting with dead captains; I believe I'm close to victory. Thus, I should finally release that soon.

The reason I didn't put Alpha 7 yet is that "ghost ships" and "dead men walking" are serious bugs causing frustration and are killing the game. I didn't want to put anything with such faulties. However, when I started to fix animist quest, it turned out that problem is much more serious. Please, be patient!

Someone was asking for code which would allow for manual reloading to next deck during boarding. Here's code to put into PROGRAM\console.c:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    if (LAi_boarding_process) LAi_EnableReload();<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->This way it'll execute only during boardings and won't harm if F12 would be pressed accidentially in other locations.

today the first ship I boarded after implimenting that fix and I got the bug, wich was perfect as I hoped to. the F12 thing worked, then I got the dead captain bug, I did F12 again and it worked again =) so kudos on that, you guys fixed both bugs.

Thank you for putting in your time and brains, I hope I speak for the entire build community when I say we appreciate it very much!!!
Also kudos to you for hanging in there with this beast of a problem and not releasing anything prematurely. That is the right way to do it for sure even if a quick stab at succes is always tempting.

I therefore present the following in your name!

I once tried this workaround myself, but I started to experience lots of crazy reload-related bugs afterwards, such as Fast Travel not working properly, open gates that you can't teleport through and other crazyness. I'm not sure if this workaround was the cause for this or that something else caused it, but it might be something to keep an eye on when you use this workaround.
 
I'm not saying the weirdness I encountered was actually caused by this workaround, of course, but if you do experience something like that as well, please report back here so that we know that the workaround, in fact, does cause that weirdness.

While you are at it, can you include the little fix that disables First Person View during Directsail reloads:

It seems that FPV sometimes makes the game unstable, so it might be better to use 3rd Person as default.

I will try to make another PB Modifications version this week or the next including all latest fixes that I know of and send it to Pirate_KK for inclusion. If Pirate_KK doesn't release his version soon, I might release my version as temporary update, because at the moment there seems to be some confusement on Alpha 6 and Alpha 6 Additional which could be solved once there is a proper update including the newest bugfixes I have.

I don't have it anymore either. I know it's somewhere up on FileFront, but I don't remember the link. Perhaps somebody else remembers?

Now, one last question, there was a B14A6 additional there too, is that a good thing to install too, and in what order?
 
Alpha 6 Additional contains some known unstable mods and was only meant for modders. DON'T install that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />
