Battle Sail vs Full Sail

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Does anyone know what controls which sails go up and down in battle sail vs full sail? Several of the ship keep the front sail (jib sail?) lowered in battle sail, making it difficult to see targets in front of you so you can use the front cannons effectively. It might make it easier in chasing fleeing ships to have that sail raised in battle sail. Any ideas? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

The sails that get furled when you go to battle sails, is every sail on the "shipname_rey_aX.gm" spars.
X is the mast number that spar is on.

It is usually the lowest sail so if the bow sprit has more than one sail, then the lower one gets furled.

If that is not the one you want, then you can switch the names of the "shipname_rey_aX.gm" and "shipname_rey_bX".gm, so that it' the other one that gets furled.

You also have to change/switch the locator names in the "shipname_MastY.gm" file (Y=mast #) for this to work.

Hm, this implies that we can remove the spritsails (I think that's what they're called) completely from ships. I have a *lot* of pictures of Napoleonic ships and not a single one shows that sail set. Some will have the spars, sometimes the spars show a furled sail on them, but the sail is never unfurled.

I'm sure that sail got more use in the 1600's, but I'd like to see it gone on most ships.

It involves changing the bow sprit and rigging, which Hawk and I have done on some new ships.

The POTC Patriots and Emperors modders are working on just that as it brings ships into the Napoleonic era.

I think the older style (1620-1670) POTC ships should stay basically just as they are, with Napoleonic ships as an add-on.

Thanks! I will give that a try and see how it turns out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Although I have some difficulty in the course of chasing shooting I would intercede so as these sails were keeps on ships at least at ships where are historically backed up and that is practically at all ships from 16th and 17th century. As you all know in 17th century there were very common even small masts situated at bowsprits. On the other hand in Napoleonic Era practicaly all ships had jibs already. But I think jibs started to be used in 18th century already. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I'm guessing when you say I have to change switch locator names, that means I have to figure out this hex editor thing?

It's easy to do with Inez's Tool program.

Oh, and another thing I just noticed yesterday.

If the bow sprit or Mast 1 has only one sail, then the program uses it as the Battle sail.
It doesn't matter what it's called, rey_ a1 or rey_b1.
