I'm just playing POTC as a pirateand I think pirates should have a rank system too. After you've said to Jurcksen that you want to become a pirate, you gain the lowest rank. You shouldn't earn money on low ranks , but after being promoted a few times , you should get sth. of the loot of pirates of QC !
(like money from the estates)

Yep, this is on my list of things to look into doing... I've designed a `skill-enhancing` tattoo system to get instead of land, and I suppose there'll be pirate promotions... I just have to make sure a random nation is generated to sink offshore instead of a pirate, unless creating two strains of pirates is `do-able`.

Why, if I´m not completely wrong, you can join the QC pirates and there are ranks for them in the common.ini file in the language folder. I´m just not sure how you can join them, yet.

OOOOps!!!
The last time I was able to join the pirates was in build 10.1 !
But as far as I know nothing about pirate ranks is mentioned in the b12 readme!

Well, they´re still there, the rank names, at least. I saw them just yesterday, and my memory´s not that bad. But whether they´re still in use, I can´t tell. There seems to be a lot of code that´s still there but unused.

Aye ye be right Grimm,Ye can join de pirates on QC if yer rep an wealth is high enuff, but after that ye can't do any generated pirate mission cause thar are non,so ranks are not generated either, another unfinshed part O' de game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thank you for the information, Skull. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

You don't even need to be a pirate for this. Could be mistaken here though...

If ye be refer'n te Bloody Scourge,Terror O de high seas type reputation in relations mate,if ye have dis reputation {not rank,}like it ur not most likley ye have done some piratey dastardly deeds an therefor ye be labeld as a pirate, surely a fine English Officer would not have such a repuation,O' course dis jest be me humble opinion <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I meant in the relations screen, where it says "unknown freebooter", "`well-known` pirate", "scourge of the Caribbean", etc. You don't need to act the pirate for being named a pirate in there.

I dunno why that is... those are listed in the same file as the other nations' ranks, so you should only get them if you serve the pirates.
And I dunno why mine said "Mister" one time, but that's what everyone came to call me by then. And I was playing as a lady...

The "Mister" thing is in the dialog code, it's a default. I have often thought that "Captain" would be more appropriate however it's NOT appropriate if you happen to have a DIFFERENT rank with a country...

Why not? You might hold a different rank, but your title is still "captain", that´s what your job is.

But I don´t think that´s the same as the "title" or whatever you call it (the "`known-as`" perhaps) in the relation screen, since nobody ever called me "unknown freebooter Grimmelshausen".

There´s another thing about the dialoges, as well, people seem to use the first name when the last is more appropriate. And when you get promoted you´re always called "captain *rank*" (in B11 at least, I haven´t got a promotion in B12 by now).

Heh, you could be an Admiral or Commodore, then you would NOT be a Captain... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

That "known as" is part of the reputation system. It's basically your notoriety in the game. I think that builds with the amount of people you talk to or run errands for - the governors you meet, the trading you do with the merchants... I'm not quite sure precisely what it's for, but I'm guessing it's a ranking system something like in SMPirates! - like the level you retire to when the game is over...

Again, that captain "rank" thing is in the dialogs - and it's awkward, I agree. Going through and changing them all would be a LOT of work - because the indications are different in each dialog.

I think a lot of the people in the game should address you by your last name, not your first name, unless you are VERY familiar with them (like Danielle)... Others can call you by your first name if they preface it with "Captain" (not "Mister"). And maybe the ranks given you by the governors should only be used by the governors and the military... Otherwise you really should be "Captain (last name)" or "Captain (first name)". Equals (other ship captains) should refer to you as JUST your last name... You shouldn't be "Mister (first name or last name)" at all, unless the character has first met you and does not know you are a ship captain...

The way the dialogs are structured, fixing this would be a very large task. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Say... wouldn't it be cool if the game kept track of your body count, and told you by the time you beat the main quest how many ships you sunk/captured and how many odd coves you knocked on the head? And then you'd get a ranking.

---

I'm pretty sure even the F2 screen listed me as "mister."

---

I enjoy using funny names that combine strangely with the rank names. Kitsch Nihilist, ranked, becomes Captain de Navio Nihilist... Frank N. Furter, similiary, is Commodore Furter or Captain de Frigata Furter.

I remember seeing interface screen done by AlexB I think in the A&M Mod that showed you how many ships ye sank, tonnage, and I think some other stats,it was quite a while ago,so I'm not sure O' me facts but it was really neat <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

As far as I know, in that case you use the last name, don´t you? Except in case of a nobleman, who is adressed with "Sir/Lord *firstname*". But I do agree, fixing it would mean a hell lot of work, flipping through all the dialog files. I´ve spent more than enought time giving all soldiers and officers my `self-made` longswords, which meant going through all the files in the character/init directory. And I´ve taken a look into the dialog directory <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Yep, there's a LOT there... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> It's not as simple as a global search and replace - because the SITUATION would need to be assessed to see what's going on to make the appropriate decision about a title or rank...

Scheffnow's Dialog Merge tool was helpful for understanding the dialog.c and dialog.h files and how they fit together and what's going on in the particular discussion. Some of that stuff is out of sequence so it's a bit confusing if you don't use the Dialog Merge. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
