Best Installation for AoP

Pieter Boelen

Having finally acquired AoP, my question would be how to achieve the best possible installation. Where do I find the main fixes and modpacks and in what order do I install them?

Hi Pieter,

Welcome to AoP.

Install the game (do not run it), remove read only attributes from files.

Go to Cyberops filefront page. You will find the Supermod and updates 1 - 5.

Install these in order.

Have fun....

Great game with a few bugs which still cause occaisional crashes, but it is playable.

Cyberops is tied up with other tasks at the moment, and there is no more progress on mods without him.

The Russian version can be downloaded (AoP Caribbean Tales) it has been modded extensively, but is not compatable with the supermod and is only in Russian, the translation packages (IMHO) do not work.

Hi Pieter,

No

Avoid the 1.5 patch from Playlogic.

It is superceded by the Supermod i.e. the best bits of 1.5 are already in Supermod.

Supermod also provides the No CD patch as well as getting rid of the Starforce nonsense.

Hum; I don't even seem to be able to find the download link for that Supermod thing. Perhaps I'll just try to play for a bit on the unmodded game; I don't really intend to play much AoP anyway. I'm still a PotC-dude. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Looking at this forum for the first time in a long while, I am surprised once again that AoP modding died so badly as it did while PotC still continues. And there's really a ridiculous amount of stickies on this forum. Are there actually any people still seriously playing and/or modding AoP or managing the AoP forums or is it all completely done for...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

The Supermod and its five updates can be found here:
<a href="http://hosted.filefront.com/CyberOps" target="_blank">http://hosted.filefront.com/CyberOps</a>

If you're going to install the Supermod, you do not need any additional patches apart from its own five updates, also available from the same site.

If you're not going to install Supermod, you should install the official version 1.50 patch, as it fixes several bugs. The Supermod does not fix them all. You must also install a NoDVD patch, otherwise your PC will be infested with Starforce. Make sure you get one specifically for version 1.50.

If you're not going to install Supermod or version 1.50, you'll still need a NoDVD patch - make sure you get one for version 1.41.

You do not need a NoDVD patch for Supermod as it has one built in.

Thanks very much. Most appreciated. Downloading the Supermod now; let's see what all the buzz is about. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
I take it the installation order is: supermod first, then the updates in order?

Where do I find the official 1.50 patch?

Pieter,

You do not need 1.5 if you are installing Supermod. Install Supermod, then each of the updates in sequence 1-5. they overwrite each other so you must do them in sequence

If not installing Supermod, then 1.5 is available from the playlogic site.

I am playing most days and enjoy the game. Many people gave up as the version released by Akella was pretty much unplayable and they should be ashamed of themselves.

The fixes by Cyberops (and others) have been great and it is a good game despite the occaisional crahes (keep saving).

It needs more work, but we do not have anyone who is modding the core programme. There have been music, ship and character mods from many people, but we still need the final bugs fixing and some new storylines etc.

Perhaps someone from PoTC could help out as it is in essence the same code as I understand it.

I have no idea if anyone is managing the forum, I have spent most time on the PoTC script which is a very active area as you know. AoP has become a backwater which is a shame as the Russians have shown us the potential is huge for AoP.

We are considering porting the Build mod to the Storm 2.5 or Storm 2.8 engine if we can. Not sure if we will or how far we'd come if we'd try, but perhaps... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Of course there's plenty of moderators (me included) who could manage this here forum, but I'm not sure if there's actually a moderator with proper knowledge of AoP. I know I'm not.

Yeah; I know the PotC script is very active. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
I'd be most interested in seeing some new posts of yours there as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

The game didn't respond anymore after winning the fight upon my first boarding and proceeding to the next level. Hum. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter,

This is really stange, I played a lot with these two configuration:

1) AOP + AOP_15.exe (AOP Patch vers. 1.5).

or

2) AOP + AOP Super Mod v1.1.exe + update1.rar + update2.rar + update3.rar + update4.rar + update5.rar

The first configuration is a little more stable and in Italian too.

The second configuration have few new stuff (Jungle take from POTC, inabithated open house, bordel, one or two new ship and few other stuff) and is available only in English.

Few time ago some good mate have try to include AOP Patch vers. 1.5 in AOP Super Mod, you can find it in the Playlogic AOP forum (AOP_Supermod_FULL_Repack_5.exe) it could be installed on top modded or unmodded AOP, I still not try it.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> bye, bye,
giuliootto

Hi Pieter,

Not had a crash on boarding for a long time. If it is after the boarding it can not be the autosave feature. It is possible that it has something to do with the ranking level, but I am guessing. Certainly as your level increases, you can take any ship without a crash.

Please be patient, it is a rewarding experience just keep saving early on in your career.

Did you like sailing on the Caribbean map? I find it better than the PoTC map. I have been lucky to have traveled to most of the islands of the Caribbean and it makes more sense to me than the Oxbay/Redmond map.

It would be cool to expand the map further to Florida the Eastern Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

I have had crashes during autosaves before boarding. And if the game crashes during autosave, you'd better have another saved game from before it did so, because the autosave will have been interrupted by the crash and will be corrupt. I found that out the hard way when every ship I encountered was a man o' war. This did wonders for my experience points, not to mention my cash reserve, and also meant the smugglers suddenly had a lot more space in their cargo holds for my ill-gotten gains. But it did get boring after a while, and when I reverted to a saved game from before the crash, the usual variety of ships started appearing again. It did mean I lost all the money and experience I'd gained from looting men o' war, though...

Can't have been the auto-save thing; it happened after winning the first boarding fight. Perhaps I'll try again some day. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The main thing I like about the AoP map is that it remembers where all ships are for when you return to the map. That's a definite improvement over PotC.

It is a new pirate game in development by seaward.ru, the same team that made the Russian SLiB mod for PotC. It is based on Akella's Storm 2.8 engine and will be release to the Western world soon. This game has the full Caribbean, incuding the Spanish Main.

More seriously, have you tried again, and does the game consistently hang after winning the deck battle?

Not unless the islands are also reshaped and repositioned to make them accurate. In AoP, the islands are accurate, or at least as accurate as they were in Sid Meier's "Pirates". I have that for the old Atari ST, and when I couldn't figure out how to get the "paper" map in AoP, I played AoP for quite a while using the real paper map from "Pirates". It's just a pity that the mainland is missing, though. But as for PoTC, if it's using fictitious islands, I'd prefer fictitious names to go with them. (Incidentally, the Supermod borrows the jungle from PoTC, and you can still find the signpost between Oxbay and Greenford!)

Also it was meant to have all original fictional islands renamed. So once we've done all that, it would be quite like the real Caribbean. Far from being perfect, obviously, but still better than the original game.

Im pretty sure theres a Remixed version with the SuperMod and Patch 1.5 together by someone named Danny on the official fourms. You should try that one Captain Boelen.

Thank you. Where do I find the official forums anyway?
Not sure if I want to bother much about it anyway; I don't think I'm going to play much AoP. PotC is still giving me enough to do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

theres the thread on the official fourms, its all just one file to download, I found it much easier then dealing with finding all of Cyberops' files.
