Bethesda and AOP CT

I saw somewhere in the credits, I saw Bethesda was involved in making this game, makes sense, ok
But never before has Bethesda used or even TOLERATED the use of StarForce. I personally think this seems
odd, why would a company that never use SF even if it was available, suddenly switch, ideas welcome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

actually, the russian version of PoTC used Starforce. or at least one of the patches did. so this is not a first.

ah, I see, well I stand corrected then. But i find it weird that so many games use it if it is claimed to be bugged, thats probably a better way of putting it. Anyone here have problems with starforce, I haven't so I'm wondering what one would look like/do.

Not everyone has problems with Starforce. With some people, Starforce will cause problems with their CD-burner software and some DVD-ROM drives. Personally, it has never affected me. But I also hear that it installs spyware. And for that reason I won't tolerate it on my computer anymore... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

pirates, I've got an install on a seperate harddrive,
which I take out when not playing the game.
When I play, the computer can not connect to the net!
There are some Noises from the Bios (like peeps when something
goes wrong, i.e. flat bios batterie etc). Now, I wonder whether that has
anything to do with the Starforce CRAP.
The CDrom is still holding out. The game ofcourse is full of BUGS!!
It crashes a lot, configuring your keyboard doesn't work and more!!!
I come accross overloaded ships (a 1500ton ship carrying 40000 tons)
..And that is not a misprint!! Last, PotC game is a lot better!
It hardly ever crashes and is far improved since some very clever
Modders got hold of it!!!!!

I had never really heard of the SF problems until I started reading all these threads re AOP, but once I read them it all started making sense.
A couple months ago I bought a bargain bin game "Space Rangers 2". Started playing it, and it's an ok game. Started having some CTD's, not enough to keep me from playing, but enough to be frustrating. Within a couple weeks, I noticed my computer was running slower and slower. Then it started freezing, then it started crashing. It got to the point where I couldn't even boot up.
Finally, not knowing what else to do, I reformatted my hard drive and started all over. I assumed that I had a virus, even though virus scans always came up clean, or that my win xp files were corrupted.
After waiting "forever" for AOP to come out, I finally started seeing the threads here on PA about AOP, and the SF topics, and it all came clear to me. SF from that one game got in my puters guts and just started chewing, and eating away until it wouldn't do anything anymore. Thank god I had an old hard drive with win 98 on it so I could reformat...
BTW why can't you reformat a stand alone hard drive with win xp? I used to do it all the time in DOS.

UP THE GAMERS!!!!!! DOWN WITH STARFORCE!!!

Won't have SF on me rig, caused me probs as well. Ye don't need te format drive in DOS with XP, load XP disk in yer drive an run it, at beginning press F8 if I remeber correctly an away ye go, done mine a few times this way with XP Pro <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

correction, AOP is NOT published by Bethesda, it is published by Playlogic ... Bethesda may be involved in it somehow( I gues it has somthing to do with copywrite, about using and moddifing the POTC engine), but the publisher has the final word.

I don't get why they acctualy use copyprotections anyway. If there's a software, there's a way to hack it, it is as simple as that. Sure, some amateurs might hook off, but this only means a bigger profit for the pro's .

If I would develope a game I woudn't even botter about it since it only costs money and it doesn't realy do anything !

Hmm, the one thing i kinda want to see come back though is a build mod. I wanted to have the ability to berth and tie up ships to save em for later. Ah well, back to starforce, it's only a matter of time until starforce is gone hacked or found to be unsuitable for comps. Though I've never had problems with SF, I'm still a bit worried bout it
