Lot of bad things going on here...

First of all, I only have one Potc disk, since I can't find the second, so I can't install it all the way. Luckily, I had a backup, but it had an older build12 installed in it. I can get it to play by halfway installing it then shutting down the installer to trick the registry, and then put the backup in the folder. This works fine, but when I download the updates and install them, it deletes the engine.ini, so I have to copy one over from the backup. Then it starts up, but there are white blocks circling around the intro screen and the mouse is just a white block. I start a new game, but most of the ships have no icons, they're just white. Anyway, when I finish and it starts to load it just goes to a black screen. Is there anyway to fix this, or to just get the build12 install out of my backup copy so I can start fresh? I really want to play! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />
 
I think I have a few error logs but I don't know which one you guys would need...

It keeps saying "The device is lost...etc" for hundreds of lines so I didn't put that part...
 
Sounds to me like simply a lot of the required RESOURCE files are missing, because those are on the second CD you can't find. So to fix these problems, I think you do need your second CD. What kind of backup do you have?
 
The backup is the whole game, but I installed build 12 on it without any other updates to it. This was from quite a few months ago, but I dont remember how long. I guess that's the problem, maybe the build 12 I have isnt compatible with the new versions I download from PPP. That's kinda why I just wanted to uninstall build12 from the backup to try to make it just a stock backup.

To clarify: The game works as I described in my first post when I just copy over my backup since it has everything. But since it has an older(I'm guessing) version of build12, I can't update it or it does really weird things and won't play right.

Edit: Now the engine.ini has suddenly dissapeared from my backup so it won't play either. This is getting pretty annoying.
 
I would recommend installing your backup, then install the current Build 12 on top and the current Post Build 12. All are available from my page. It should work, no matter if you had a Build 12 already installed.
 
Well, I finally fixed it by downloading the game. I figure I already bought it and hours of installing/uninstalling just aren't working. Don't hate me! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
