Need Help Blurred font

Alex911

Landlubber
Hello,

I have blurry fonts and text (see attachments)

Mod version: Build 14 Beta [Last Update:24th March 2020]
OS version: Windows 10 x64
Video: Intel HD Graphics 3000

I also try change resolution, full screen, high texture (with no result)

Any idea how to fix it?

Guys,

I fix it (see attachments) - compare results.

How I fix it:
1. Go to "intel hd graphics control panel"
2. Tab 3D options -> "quality"
3. Tab Power Options -> "Maximum Performance"
:woot

The picture in general, seems quite blurry to me.
And your resolution is larger than the ones on my screenshots.
Yours is 1600x900, while mine is 1366x768.

I turned down the texture quality and I replicated your image:
Medium texture quality (probably your setting):

High texture quality (my setting):

Low quality:

So maybe try again running Config.exe, and setting the texture quality to high.

How my settings look:

If that doesn't work, then something weird is going on.

Good luck! :cheers

Wait, shouldn't maximum performance make it look worse?

Anyway, if it is fixed then congratulations! :cheers

(The previous post was written before seeing that you posted about your success.)

Ah, now I get it, I got the settings mixed up.

Maximum performance the does indeed help with gaming.

My windows are in Greek, so sometimes it is a bit confusing, translating settings in your head, finding out they are differently named. :facepalm

And the translation isn't generally the best.

In the Intel settings, "maximum performance" just tells the graphics card to run at full power/performance, and not use any energy saving features. The low power mode is a feature on laptops, to conserve battery life.

What actually fixed it was telling the graphics card to render everything at high quality, in combination with setting all textures in the game to high quality.

I recall "Texture Quality: Medium/Low" in Config.exe can indeed make the fonts look less legible.

Low quality:
I was going to say how people played the original game on low when it came out.

So I launched the stock game with texture quality on low, and the menus where not affected by it. Only the in-game textures were affected.

Maybe we could have it this way in New Horizons too?
Unless the was a reason behind this change.

As far as I know, we have zero control over that. o_O
There must be a way that the engine defines/separates textures for the menus and textures for the game. It would be something defined in the code -- either a list, or a folder/directory designation, or something of the sort.

It has probably never been discovered, which is why this blurring of the text still happens on lower graphics settings.
