Boarding in Build 13

Doober

Buccaneer
Storm Modder
It is just me or has boarding been reverted back to the stock game where everyone starts scattered over the decks of both ships? Is there a setting somewhere that I'm not seeing that will allow the boarding parties to start in groups like they were in the prebuild? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I do not know about settings but find a few weird things
like the crew facing the wrong way just walking and not putting
sabers away after the fighting is done! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

That's weird. Nothing was changed in quite a while. It should still work as in any Build 13 Beta version.

Aye , strange indeed, My character always starts near stern of boarding deck with my crew in front of me. Sometimes they don't sheath their sabres right away, figured their just being cautious <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

and it has been reported before!!! I can't remember
the beta but goes back way before Build13 full.

Same here but note I see my officers and some enemy there.

The rest of my boarding party materialize on the other side and run over to join me after they have dispatched all enemy on the other deck.

Hi Petros, Yep ,pretty much same , although I noticed on the large board'n deck they all seem to flood one side of the ship with the exception of a few, I have to run around the other side of the ship and by the time I get there, most of the enemy has already been slaughterd by my crew, they get to have all the fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

So the problem with boarding is that the player starts too far away from the enemy? I noticed that as well. Hook was once working on fixing that by moving the locators on the ship decks around so that the player will also be set in the frency at the begin of the boarding. Not sure how far he got with that. CouchcaptainCharles had also been doing something that concerned this if I recall correctly.

On both of the large boarding decks everyone runs up one side. On one of them they run up the right, on the other they run up the left.

I experimented with putting the player in the middle of the action on the two-ship boarding deck, but it's confusing and dangerous. Not something you want to do.

I've modified the two-ship boarding deck so that if you're boarding a larger ship you start in the normal place, with some crew on each ship. If you're boarding a smaller ship, you start on the quarterdeck of the other ship. But this has problems because your crew will clog the boarding ramps, forcing you to run to the far ramp then back to the action, and by the time you get there there's not much left. I've been using this new code, but haven't submitted it to Pieter.

One thing I did do is when you're fighting in the large cabins, you start at the front of your men. This works well. This is in the current code.

as your crew does a lot of walking and not much fighting! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hi Hook, is it possible to have your character in front of your crew at start of two ship boarding deck ? this would then give you decision in which direction you chose to go. Also is it possible to have your character start at bottom of stairs on large boarding deck, then it would give you time to get more involved in battle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Answering Doober's question, I would say yes.
The boarding has reverted to stock or something very similar to it.
Your crew start on both ships and the enemy also start on both ships.

That is VERY weird. That was not supposed to happen. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

The small cabin is a disaster no matter what. How would people feel about limiting the small cabin to 2 characters total? It's now 4. This would be you and one enemy boarder every time, but you wouldn't see characters just walking any more. The number of characters on a deck needs to be an even number, so we can't use 3.

As far as the two-ship upper deck is concerned, there are "locN" and "alocN" locators on both ships. I've always seen boarders of both sides on both ships, but not every battle. I don't know what files are being used in the latest code, because I'm waiting for a non-installer version of the update to mess with it.

with the decks. The only change would be to bring your character closer to the action if it is at
all possible! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

This mod worked at one time. Both crews started on opposite ships.

Skull, this will put you right in the center of attackers unless we can get them back over to their own ship like they used to.

In the LOC-Ai folder is there supposed to be two Ai boarding.C files, one is old version, one is new version, I removed old version and was able to board a ship and fight with Captain on deck, there were no crew members on either ship, it appears the game is using old boarding .C file <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

But by "both ships" you mean that your boarders and the enemy appear on both ships fighting each other, right?

What we want is the enemy on their ship and we on ours, at the start of combat.
