Bounty on my head

Croaker

Landlubber
Ive been playing the British missions and I just completed a quest to attack a Dutch town. The Dutch immediatly put a 75,000 bounty on my head. This was my first bounty, so I was actually excited to see how this worked.

<b>On land:</b> Every time I zone out of a building or enter a port, there is a chance to encounter bounty hunters. In each case there were 10 guys who attack me. They will even do this in Port Royale, where I am considered a Hero and I am a commander rank, but the British guards all just ignore the battle. I had three encounters like this in one visit to Port Royale.

<b>On Sea:</b> I left Port Royale and immediatly had an encounter with bounty hunters. 6 Battleships!!! All I had was a fast brig, so I ran.

Does it make sense for bounty hunters to be expending this kind of effort to kill me? With at least 30 guys in every town and countless squadrons of 6 Battleships patroling the seas, the bounty hunters must be spending millions of piasters each month for a chance to collect on 75,000! The three land encounters and sea encounter all occured in 20 minutes of playtime.

<b>My Suggestions:</b>

On land, bounty hunters should only be attacking you in the jungle. If they must attack you in town, the guards should help. The number of bounty hunters should be reduced to 3-4 or scaled to the bounty with no more than 1 hunter per 50K bounty.

On sea, bounty hunters should be in 1 medium ship, or a few small ships, but the value of the ships shouldnt exceed the value of the bounty.

In both cases the encounter rate should be decreased.

Yes it's annoying.I think it's the difficulty level.
Just make the bounty raise more and soon a whole nation will chase you. They will even surpass the locals in number.
Wait to see the fleets they will send after you ( 2 war/line/battle ships, 2 frigates , 2 heavy galeon - almost always , very frequent).

I have to tell you: go to pirate tavern , find diplomat and pay to reconcile once in a while.
Also get privateer patent if you don't have already - this gives you a legal way for attacking ennemy ships.
Have bounty 0 when going to be sunk by dutchman.

I did complain about the same thing before you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> :

If your stealth skill is high enough when you get a bounty on your head sneak into a enemy city and go see the gov. I did, just payed him 100k and my rep has been excellent with dutch ever since. Even though I've sank/captured over 100 of thier ships since lol.

I don't think sneaking and stealth work for everyone because I've tried to do the whole sneak in scenario many times only to be forcibly stopped by guards well out of range and then attacked. The governor has two guards stationed outside and inside his building minimum, making the stealthy approach impossible for me. What really gets on my nerves is HOW they even know you're an enemy. In my case it's just because my home country is at war with them, which is hardly a good enough reason in my book to send an entire town full of guards after me. Not only that, it's ridiculous. I think that the way factions work needs some severe retooling on the level of allowing people from ANY faction to dock at any town provided they don't have a 'hostile' rating on a personal level, which would be much easier to avoid were this allowed. Safe docking provided you haven't provoked conflict, safe traveling about towns, and TOWN BASED standing would be good (ie, making an enemy of Curacao doesn't necessarily make you an enemy of all Spanish ports). If you think about it, the whole personal standing means nothing in the game when your home faction is at war, which really makes no sense. There's no reason Curacao should sink me JUST BECAUSE I'm English and they're at war; I'm sure in reality they welcomed trade wherever they could get it regardless. On the open seas pretty much anything goes so I really don't have any issues with that aside from pirate vessels always seeming to veer right for you even when juicy merchant ships slam right into them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.

Oh yeah, that's a <i>horrible</i> <strike>bug</strike> <strike>design flaw</strike> <b>idiocy made manifest</b> that has plagued the Storm-engine games for as long as I can remember. Three or four pirate squadrons of frigates, galleons, and corvettes decide to ignore several trader convoys and instead hound me in my tiny tartane throughout half the Caribbean? <i>Really?</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

i agree bounty is an annoying part of the game. Holland put 100K on my head, and 9 out of 10 ports i go will have hunters a-waiting. Half of the time, i managed to cheat my way out. Now i cant go anywhere without 3 fighters with me. Out in the sea, dutch bountyhunters got 7 ships per squadron.

I tried to pay the diplomat but he asked for 4 millions. Hopefully there is a way to edit the .txt files and savegame compatible.

If u want to get help from the guards, just fight the bounty hunters near them, i think thy hti one of them and they die for this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Be careful u or any of your officers to not hit the guards, or u gonna be in trouble too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ah thanks! I guess the end of the pier or the building exits are out of their sight range. Probably no way to increase it for this case without making sneaking impossible.
