British Royal nave colours and other things...

I was just thinking how kickass a Royal Navy mod would look:

<img src="http://www.stvincent.ac.uk/Heritage/1797/Victory/images/victory.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Also someone should add visible rigging for the ships. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I think it should include the ability to have british naval ships as well as the merchant ones, painted as they rightly shud be e.g. the Victory in the above pic. changes the uniforms of the british sailors so that they wear correct uniform etc plus your officers where correct uniform etc, and the hats are changed to look like the hats from master and commander as they look far better.

If we could find a modeler who was willing to change the models in PotC to match those hats, we could fix that, but otherwise we are stuck with the hats we have on existing models.

It's funny how everyone is trying to "mod up" to the Napoleon era. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yes, funny indeed. Whoever publishes the O'Brian books is probably happy though. I wonder what the statistics are for sales prior to the movie, as opposed to now? Talk about prize money.

-VISIBLE RIGGING!
-`Black-and`-yellow scheme for the hull of the Manowar, Lineship, Frigate, Corvette and Warship
-FIGUREHEADS!

I have a Frigate which looks a lot like the MHS Surprise, but it's not yellow and black....

Visible rigging is certainly _possible_--I mean, we already have _some_ stays and sheets visible--but it would take a _darn_ long time adding all those locators in Maya.
Plus a performance hit from _drawing_ them all.

MY thoughts exactly. I want to be at the Helm of the HMS Surprie myself! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

The lack of sheets is really a shame. It seems like the yacht has the most realistic looking rigging. Some staysails would really add a lot too.

Nathan, do you know if Maya 5.0, atleast, can be used to add locators, or do we need 4.5 for that too?

AFAIK the plugin works only for 4.5. And the way it currently works, you have to recreate all the locators and then export (i.e. you can't _import from_ GM, only export to; GM Viewer will export GM _geometry_ to OBJ but not locators).

I think Inez Dias's character import tool will work - for 3DStudioMax...

I've done HMS Surprise (that's from the original plans).

I've also done a whole bunch of others. They're even in Maya and ready to import (minus locators, obviously).

Wow, that looks great `Sigma-6`! I'm looking for Captain Aubrey and Dr. Maturin on the decks, it looks so good. Glad to see you back in these waters!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Well done!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Nice mate!!

Nice to see you again `Sigma-6`, and nice to see the <i>Surprise</i>. A nice one, the post is.

Slight nit: _any_ program that can export to VRML will work with Inez's tool I believe.

Theoretically, couldn't I use that tool to import ships if it retained the locators from ships of the same type? (Then I could move the locators to where they should be and convert to gm?)

Ahoy `Sigma-6`,good ta see ye back mate,very nice look'n ship <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hell yes I want this sooooo badly when can we expect it for download for playing in potc?
