broken buttons

Hylie Pistof

Curmudgeon
QA Tester
Storm Modder
Pirate Legend
Now something new has popped up. When F2 is pressed and the screen comes up, none of the buttons works. I can't look at quests, relations, ships, and I can not check out my crew.

This also affects the chests in tavern rooms and looting corpses. Also swordsmiths and gunsmiths don't work. But merchants and shipwrights still work so I can buy and sell goods and repair, buy and sell ships.

Note to self. When this happens again remember alternate left and right clicking on a button to free them up again. :hmm

Ayup. Every once in a great while all of the menu buttons decide not to work. Doing a tap dance on the mouse buttons frees them up.

Everything is back to normal.

Sometimes I run into a bug that makes the menu not work, but that's usually because I did something wrong with the code.
If it does happen, pressing F1 still brings up the main menu and closing the main menu puts the game back to normal.
Until you trigger the same bug again. But then we'd need to know when it is triggered.

weird sounding bug Hylie.........it's not your whole PC temporarily freezeing(to run a scan disk/anit virius scan etc) up maybe?

I don't think it's that. I suspect that the memory in my video card is bad. It ctd's several times a day with the error message saying it's the drivers. But it's not the drivers.

Anyways, this has only happened maybe three times that I can remember.

Does what I describe in my previous post sound familiar, Hylie?

Yes and no.

All of the menu buttons quit working and exiting the game and reloading does not help.

This last time I was messing around in the shipyard with the Revenge. I was trying out different paint jobs. But I don't remember precisely when this happened.

Is that it ctd's several times a day just playing PotC or in general usage? hmmm you could try some of those memmory testing utilities, just in case you got some problem emerging, memtest is an old established one:

Although that just tests your PC's actual RAM, so not your GPU, i use OCCT to run heavy stress tests on my wider systems if needed(CPU and GPU etc). OCCT can be pretty hard on your system so just in case you have a bad cooling system or dodgey fan connection etc, i'd only use it with full supervision of your system and your hand near the power button just in case you smell burning! It takes about 45mins-1hr or so to run a full stress test.

Having said that, i've used it dozens of times to test hardware and not had a major problem apart from one time when a GPU fan had stopped working for some reason(unrelated to OCCT).

Anyway before trying all that, i'd only bother IF you are finding your getting those CTD gpu memmory errors in other programs outside of playing PotC. If it's just PotC then you can just bookmark them as useful software tools for the future(it's always nice to find new diagnostic tools) :)
