Bug Reports

KnooBill

Landlubber
At the specific forum when requested to state the game version, the only ones available where of Build 14 (and below its title it says "Bugs only! For the latest Build (Build 12). Beta or Alpha bugs go in their respective forums, not here. This forum is heavily moderated." Needs updating).
So I take the initiative to write here.

I'm using Build 13 final, and I've been playing with minor crashes ( :p ) for some time (when changing areas mostly) until I tried to set sail from Conceicao. I am in the port, then I embark, and once in harbour on my ship, the quick command (or however the action is called when you press enter) is not functioning. Either the previous, or it crashes when I attempt to embark. Anyhow, if I manage to be on sea, the time speeding up buttons are confused as well (used them to get far from the port to get into World Map). Once in World Map (crashes again) the moving keys do not function as well... To be specific D (right) zooms out, A (left) (if I recall correcty) turns right and W,S do nothing. I have used the O button to unbug, which when used in game (I did while on sea) messes up the graphics by showing some white lines at certain level on the horizon. I used pretty much on every other non-game screen.

Another minor bug is that the Antigua Governor has no Speech. When spoken to appears something like "I can't find my speech ..." There are also some spelling mistakes, with the most obvious being the title Ex<b><u>c</b></u>ellent given to weapons. A funny bug is that when on Land and using A,D (left, right) you can perform impossible walks defying gravity!

Any help much appreciated!

PS When I read the changes I got excited about this new possible start where you are deserted on an island far from the ship. Very good idea, but due to difficulties and frequent killings I started many new games. It seems that the location changes every time. I remember Antigua and another new French-Dutch island. Is that supposed to happen?

If your controls are messed up, reset them to default. In PROGRAM\Worldmap\worldmap.c set MAPSPEED to 1.0 at the top of the file.
That should solve some of your problems.

The Antigua governor not having his dialog is rather weird. I thought that was working.

The Stormy Start indeed does put you on a random island with random items so that each time will be a bit different. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

It didn't work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
However when I change the assigned key they seem to be half working but not playable still. The mighty code penis did some nasty things to my files (lewd humour is a great vent for my frustration, I lost all the ebony smuggling). Looting button is also confused with autorun, autorun is confused with something else, though movement on Land is intact.
There is a lot of fun in trying to kill the monk who runs away and has about 800 HP at Conceicao Outskirts. By the way, once I was able to talk to his corpse and gave me a nice legend, next time I could do nothing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />.

What's wrong with the spelling of excellent?

Upload your options file and I'll have a look at your key assignments.

The package has a self explanatory title, if I need to add anything more tell me. I checked init_pc.c myself and I spotted nothing out of the ordinary, altough my knowledge of coding is little.

Hey Pieter! Ya messed up when you changed the common.ini back from my morale changes! Hehe!

Thanks for the files, but they don't really help. What I need to see is your options file from the same folder where your main game exe is. You can simply upload it without zipping which should make it easy. The options file has the actual key assignments rather than what they're supposed to be from the code.

Are you using a standard English keyboard or something else?

It blatantly said options and I missed it. Yes I think I use a standard English one, but upon pressing a certain combination I can turn it to Greek. Other than that the keyboard looks like all the other keyboards.

Edit: It wouldn't upload without using winRAR.

Oops; missed an 'L'. Fixed now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

You were missing what appears to be an important option:

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->gameoption.keyboardlayout=0<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Rename your current options file and use this one instead. See if it doesn't make a difference.

It did not work, but as I was struggling at the port I pressed all buttons till I found the command button. It is like the keys for each action were inserted into a blender and then put back randomly. The F button, which is zooming at the minimap (sailing) was made switching from 3rd to 1st person. As anyone would expect, the TAB button, (switching persons) would become zooming, but it was the command button. Therefore they do not just trade places but go randomly anywhere.

Anyhow, if there is no quick way to fix this, I'll install the latest Build 14. I'll be more usefull reporting bugs there. Is there anything emitted from 13 to 14?

The Choose Character screen is temporarily gone, but we've got the Select Storylines one to make up for that.
Eventually you'll be able to choose your character again too. You can still do that through code, of course.

Did you have those controls issues in the unmodified game too? I recall people had controls problems before, but they were solved after resetting to default.
What happens if you change the controls manually in the options menu? Do your changes take effect at all?
Could it be that your Windows' security measures are not allowing the game to save it's own options or something?

If it is Windows firewall I might even consider installing Linux lol. Trying now. Whatever changes occur in- game are not mirrored by changes at the set controls suboption.

I like none of the characters :p. I check the tailor every day for a specific model I had found in a previous version.

No characters were removed. Which one are you looking for?
It's not the Firewall; that's just the internet security.
But I know Windows Vista can be a bit troublesome when it comes to modpacks in the Program Files folder.
What exactly happens/can happen though, I don't really know. I think usually it goes wrong upon installing.
If you have your game in the Program Files folder, try moving it to C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean instead or something like that.
Might help and should at least do no harm. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Well I do not know why, but PoTC was not on the allowed list of Windows Firewall, I added it, restored defaults again and they are functioning properly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> . I wouldn't have Vista on my computer even if it was a gift. I have tried to port forward some friends' pcs (not one, three) and it does not function (setting a static IP). I recently even formatted one's and installed XP lol. If you add and "s" in front of vista and read it, it sounds the same with the phrase "delete them" in Greek. It is not a simple coincidence I believe.
If I recall correctly the model was either Barbossa (Black Pearl's captain at the first movie because I'm not sure about the name) young or Jack Sparrow young. It was a young fair haired man in Barbossa's black uniform an black hat. Nice. I tried back then to remove the armour from appearing and I somehow managed to turn the model to grey.

Edit: On your site the model is named 9Jc "I remember Jack Sparrow as a swarthy bearded Pirate."

9Jc model should be available at any Pirate town that as a tailor in them, if I'm not mistaking(according to the initModels.c file that is). Also you might see that models as random officer for Firstmate and Navigator but that will change in the next patch that will come out, since it will be only assign as for a captain of a ship and will still be available at any Pirate town that have a tailor shop.

I have to admit that this game is magic and full of possibilities. It now crashes after I exit the buying goods screen from Conceicao trader and if I leave without buying sandal I will crash once on the high seas <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. What's keeping me from pulling my hair out I do not know.

In my case it's because I'm already bald.

Could you upload your new options that works? I want to see what the differences are. You've got some things in your file that I've never seen before.

Well, darned if I know. They're the same other than that you're missing your fire drill key, which should be C.

I wonder what was wrong with it.

I am unable to level up my characters skills. I have 14 free skill points with auto leveling off and I cant level at all.
