hey guys might be able to help me out.

I have had a english letter or marque from the beginning, done a few quest for the governor.

Never stole anything, only destroyed french and pirate ships but yet I am a horror of the high seas. I even helped a woman in the jungle.

No matter how much money I give to the church it seems to make no difference, my issue is not with the trying to get rid of the rep but why would attacking pirate ships make my reputation terrible now even in the ports where I am a commander for the english won't repair my vessel cause I am a horror of the high sea.

This a bug?

Aye, had me rep drop in de toilet fer no reason and others have posted same problem,donate'n ted de church doesn't do much, so workaround would be tew board ships an take supplies ye need to get by on,an try side quests,an rescue'n Damsels tew rebuild yer rep,might take a while <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
Aye matey! Welcome! Ne ways, for some reason like when I am sailin' with teh french, I decide to acttack the dutch and british to help la french out. BUT, it always decreases your rep. when you first attack a ship or fort of a nation. Also, about the church, I gave 409,000 pieces of smelly loot gold and it didn't make ONE bit o' difference <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

Did you take loan from loanshark? Might be that, since some loansharks might be bugged, and cause rep drop even if you have paid back. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />
 
Hi,

I have the same problem (with build 11). I tried everything but my reputation is always hard to go up after the "horror of the high seas" status. Then I find a simple solution: I go on and install a little cheat that reset my reputation to NEUTRAL status when I want this. I can explain how to do it in more detail if you want.

I would, it just a shame I done nothing wrong and it being a major pain.

So how do you reset it to neutral.

yah this is a known bug, i'm afraid. i've never worked with the reputation system so i don't know where the problem is likely to be... hope nk comes back one day...
 
I walked around town and told many people that they were about to loose their purse. Rescued many women wondering the jungles... and eventually I became neutral again. But then after all that, I had to pay the Governor for a full pardon because.. well I did loot and burn and kill many Englishmen and thier ships. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Yes, I think this little cheat is the only solution for now.
I found it in the web one or two years ago and after a little modification it's became very useful.

If you successful do it, then when you press the "j" key your reputation is reset to NEUTRAL status.

If anybody knows how to edit this please tell me.
 
I had this problem as well, but I think I know what causes it. When you borrow money from a loanshark, whether you pay them back or not, your reputation will drop to "Horror of the High Seas" as soon as the loan expires. Even though I had already paid off my loan, when I returned to the loan shark I borrowed the money from (after the reputation hit), he responded as if I had never paid him! I also noticed that the rep hit always happened on the same day. Furthermore, in my new game I didn't borrow any money and the problem never came up, so I'm now 99.9% certain that loansharks are the problem...

I strongly believe that the problem lies with the "Loanshark Mod"... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
 
I dunno, it happened to me when I was in a harbor helping the home team battle off pirates, and I don't borrow from the loansharks...

I've never had a reputation problem in the game and as I never borrow money from the Loanshark then it could very well be tied into this code.

Catalina, perhaps you accidently hit the town, fort or a home team ship and suffered some rep loss for that.

I must note that it hasn't happened to me since, tho it was quite a shock to me to become a "horror of the high seas" just because I tried to protect some town (as I recall it was Douwesen, not even Conceicao, whose colors I was flying) from pirates, LOL!
 
I'm still convinced the random rep plummet is just that - random and undeserved. But I do hate it ever so much when I'm fighting enemies alongside some townsperson or guard, and ACCIDENTALLY hit the townsperson or guard, so they attack me! Or, worse, cower in fear. I once accidentally hit my `bride-to`-be in the process of dispatching her suitor (or one of the dozen other ladies shuffling about the room like chickens), so no one in the room would have anything to do with me. Balls!

I'm not saying it's a bug, since I suppose it's realistic, but it's becomming a `pet-peeve`.
 
Hmm.... Im having rep problems to... and that cheat you posted isnt working for me although my game still loads right.
 
This happened to me. I am a capitan for the english, and I encountered a lone english schooner fighting about 10 dutch warships, corvettes, schooners, and a lineship. So, even though I have a letter of the Marque with holland, I decide to hell with the dutch, and board and scuttle all of their ships. My rep goes from matey to horror. I slowly started rebuilding it untill I got it to Swindler.
