Build 12 Problem - Not sure about version

Hey all i recently dusted off POTC again and installed build 12 onto a fresh install, repeating the installer several times to make sure it got all the files. I wasnt sure which version of POTC i owned so i checked all the options, including euro version support. Nways i couldnt start a new game, got the black screen problem others have been describing. Soo...

My questions are
- If you enable euro version support without having a euro version, does that break the install?
- How can i tell which version of POTC i own - i bought it in Australia, and havent been able to find threads pointing to any markers or points of reference to determine the version.
- Is the only way to fix the black screen error to install build 11 then build 12?
- Can i download the complete installers for these without going through the net every time
- Finally, i also had a problem when i installed the vanilla POTC that i got a "protection error" refferring to a debugger running or winice/softice. I dont know what these are, i certainly never installed them but have found out that this message is from the safedisc protection on the cds (these are of course original) last time i played it on another computer it worked fine. I solved this by a no cd crack, and am quite pissed i had to resort to this, but could this be a problem in relation to the black screen?

EDIT: Oh and if this helps, when the screen goes black i can use the f1 and f2 interfaces, but in the f2 interface one of hte headings, the one halfway down the left, reads only "error" - under it is quest book and inventory. Also, in the main menu the "about build 12" and "credits" buttons dont do anything - is that normal?

BTW Beautifull menu graphic! Cant wait to play the mod guys!

I really don't know much about this, but you might look on you CDs and look what it says on them (like on mine it says "English Version") and you could look what publisher it's got (like on mine Ubi Soft). Hope that might help you...

Sorry, I don't know much about how or where the different versions are marked, but Pieter has a good suggestion - look on your disk, usually the manufacturer will put some kind of version mark...

There are (as far as I know) four versions of this game - US/UK, EURO, RUSSIAN, and the Ubisoft version which I think has iterations in US/UK and EURO - presumably including the Russian Akella patch to the game that was never offered for the US/UK and EURO versions...

We have an update which finalizes and fixes the Euro Bug we had in Build 12, so you should be able to get that update and not need to fix anything else... See this thread for info:
