Build 13 Final - Repeatedly crashing @ conceicao

the captain

Landlubber
Dear All

I downloaded Build 13 final last week, well done to everyone who had a hand in making it i am very impressed it got me hooked again.

Unfortunately today I encountered a problem, deviating off the main quest (I was on my way to greenford to collect the prisoner) I dropped anchor at conceicao to buy some supplies, when I tried to leave conceicao on the world map it repeatedly crashes about 5 seconds into the world map. I have tried playing with it, i.e sailing to leviathan rock and then going to world map, no good. I even attempted to sail away from conceicao without the world map but it still crashes first time i go to world map

Any ideas ? its such a shame, I was so into it If I cant fix this then I wont bother playing again because I wouldnt want to get this far again and have to endure the trauma of the game crashing again.

Yeah, I've had that as well. The B14a6 version seems pretty stable. I've been at it most the day and haven't had a single crash. Conceicao was a big problem for me in B13, as was Point Au Pitre.

It´s kind of weird......I should have the same install as most you guys who gets all the crashes, but my game never crashes?? I rather get stuck or the game halts when I encounter a bug (and that´s often because there is a lot of them! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> but never a CRASH??

System specs:
Shuttle XPC (the one with the green VDF display in front)
Intel P4 3.2 (model 640 D)
ATI Radeon 800XL 512 mb
512 mb RAM
120 GB HD
Windows XP Pro SP2 with no apps running while in PotC Build 14.7 alpha plus (13_base, 13_final, 14.6, 14.7)

So you think I have to download build 14A6 ? Pieter Boelen says dont go near Build 14 unless you are a modder.
If you think it is safe I might have another go.

Fu£"@i8n Bo5%ox, I just left 3 million with the redmond moneylender, all my officers were in place and I was about to purchase a manowar. its such a shame nothing can be done.

I am really sorry about your loss. Trust me, I know how it feels <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But right after having written the above, my PotC of course crashes right in the first meeting with the Redmond guvernor time after time! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ko" border="0" alt="ko.gif" />

Pieter is right - don´t come near build 14 before it´s more stable.

Don´t worry. No damage done. I am afraid build 14 Alpha Plus already made him rip all his hair out <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Well as far as Build14 Alpha 6, the game seems pretty rock solid. I've been playing this build for about 4 hours today without any crashes at all. Some weird things happen, but it seems very stable compared to Alpha 7 (plus) which crashes every 10 mins.

So far I'm at the main quest where I have to find Rhiems, and no quest breakers or system crashes. I don't know if there is alot of difference between B13 and B14, but you could try it. It certainly fixed my Conceicao problems.

one thing to persuade you: b14 a6 has the possibility of sailing to another island without using the worldmap with lots of various random encounters along the way!

I thought it wasn't possible to sail from Island to Island in 3D mode, 'cause the islands were all loaded seperately

Lots of time on your hands, aye Morgan? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Uh? That is really weird. Does this Conceicao crash occur every time you get there? Could you check? I don't recall ever noticing any of those location-specific crashes, but I have to admit to not actually playing the game very much.

As far as Build 14 Alpha 6 is concerned: It is said it works pretty well, but keep in mind it is not perfect. It isn't called Alpha for nothing and it's got plenty of issues. Still you can give it a try. Morgan Terror is right: You CAN sail from island to island in 3D sailing mode in Alpha 6 thanks to the wonderful DirectSail mod by CouchcaptainCharles. This mod is surprisingly good fun, because you will encounter ships and other things along the way. On one of my voyages I encountered and indian funeral raft. By sailing over it, you can see if there are some goodies in there. Unfortunately the one I found was already plundered.

actually, not so much time lately. but sailing to another island like that sure takes a long time, i can tell you that! anyway, it's been made possible by CCC, and an alternative system was made by...um....someone else. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> it can be great fun trying to sail to an island on the other side of the archipelago, witout a compass, or any other navigational instruments apart from the sun. once i was only a few degrees off: it resulted in winding up at antigua instead of Quebradas Costillas! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

The alternative was made by Swindler, I think. For the full details on both methods, read "Direct Sail.txt" in the <i>buildinfo</i> subfolder after installing Alpha 6.
