Well, installed it and started playing.
First, it starts ok, played Oxbay, Greenfort and Conceicao.
Mutiny, I had three already, the first one after I finished talking
to Malcomb, just off the ship. That's not very good! Don't even get a
chance to pay them, no money anyway! Come on Modders!!!
This is Real Sailing, did not change anything! Not any of the taverns had
any officers! I know now, why I keep insisting on playing Arcade mode!
Auto Experience, not keen on it, the manual version works better!
However, I'll keep playing this 'real' stuff. The ships sail like wet sponges,
especialy after one looses crew. You can grow very old trying to get anywhere!!!
As long as the toggles remain, I don't realy care! Pirates like different things.
so one has a choice!
Luggers and all the smaller ships laying to deep in the Water, but that can be easily
changed in ships_ini.c

I have found a potentially big bug. Boarded my first ship fought through all decks but couldn't get to the ransack screen. Door was locked space bar did nothing.
 
you do know that it takes a little while before you can press space to go to the next screen, right?
 
Well I tried it several times and I didn't press it untill I had looted the chest. BTW I have been playing the game since it first came out.

I hit that same bug - but only once (first time I tried it) - O.K. since.

Also downloaded the Build (14/6) to my laptop. - Not far into the game on that yet, but so far so good!

Re Nosie's comments above:

I am using auto skill on my desktop - it does make the game a little tougher, but I like that.
I agree officers are harder to find - used Atios Votary as the captain of a second ship - he got sunk - Ah! well, that's life.
No problem with sailing - and I especially enjoy the hulks in Direct Sailing - picked up a fortune in jewels on one I found (helped me a lot)
No mutiny's for me so far (I must be better looking than Nosie ! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> )

The game does seem more stable to me.

And as Nosie says - we all like different things - so one has choices. That I do like.

For me - 10/10 so far - the game has subtle changes that have enhanced the "sameness" of playing the standard quests by providing little surprises here and there.
 
i am starting to suspect that something is wrong with several of my PotC files. for the second time now, when i entered grand turk tavern, pieter attacked me (the jokes have already been done the first time it happened, so don't bother) and i couldn't talk to him as a result. i have also been having several problems with the mateus santos quest, which i have posted elsewhere. could someone give me replacement files for the quests, and questreactions.c? i think that that would solve the problems.

I do notice that there remains no weapons locker in the cabins of captured ships, a problem that first appeared early in build 14.

Of the several new ships I have seen I particularly like the USS Fast schooner. I would like to point out however that in 1690 no ship in the world carried a USS designation. I know we have discussed this before and it is a small point but could someone rename this and anyothe USS ships with a more appropriate designation, say the names of American colonial cities such as Boston, Providence, Phildlelphia, or Charleston. Or something like New England.

And one other thing.

Playing at jouneyman, with Pieter's twweak to toughness and the -2 HP with a block I find the game
almost impossible in the early going. I have disabled the -2 HP and that is much better. I think the HP deduction is inappropriate anyway. If you block the blade you don't get hurt.

I have found the same problem. Also, it seems more difficult to loot corpses now, one has to "dance" round them a bit to get the "pick up" icon to initiate.
A minor issue - but "feels" different from previous versions.
 
i certainly agree with jason. it is indeed odd that you get damaged by stopping an attack. i already sent a PM to pirate_kk so he can fix the weapons locker problems, and as long as he doesn't fix it, i don't really expect it to fix itself.

Other bugs

1. From earlier versions of B14,

No weapons locker in captured cabin (previously noted)
Going to your cabin and /or opening weapons locker or chest appears to take everything out of chests. This was introduced in an earlier version of B14 and has not been fixed.

2. In this build there is some confusion about cabins. Birgs and schooners have big, huge cabins whether yours or boarding.

3. When a ship surrenders and you have to fight the captain, you can not loot his corpse.
 
you're not supposed to be able to loot corpses in a boarding fight, for as far as i know. in my experience the only ship that has the wrong cabin is the bermuda sloop.

No that is not correct in B146, Morgan. The new corpse looting mod now prevents corpses from obstructing movement so the default for boarding is to loot the dead corpses. This is working perfectly. The specfic point I am making is that while you can loot all the corpses killed by anyone during boarding, in the event where a surrendered captain decides to fight you and you kill him you can't loot that corpse. I think that is clearly an error, not abig one, but soemthing that should be looked into by someone.

Again I think that is incorrect, as I remember from b13 ships designated 5-6 had small primitve cabins. 3-4-and some 2 ships had medium cabins and 1s had great cabins. As ships have been added and new walks have been inseted, etcI think this has gotten a little of logical alignment. Perhpas someone who knows something about this part of the code could check it.

Finally back on a cabin visit turning off the chests, they are back on again in my game. I think this might have occured after a subsequent visit. Makes me think that <b>maybe</b> something about going into the cabin and using a chest might be acting as a toggle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
the cabin for the bermuda sloop was in build 13 indeed correct, but it isn't in build 14 alpha 5.
 
Ahh but I am talking about other cabin problems as well.

Sometimes they are full sometimes they are not, mostly not after you use chests in your cabin. It seems there are some issues that need looking into:

Chests, looting dead captains, and the fact that about 10% of the time you can't get off the boarded ship.

Hook, do you have any ideas about any of this?

that's strange. i never had any problems at all with boarding in build 14 alpha 5. and with me, the empty chest bug is always linked to entering my captains cabin. (it's linked to entering your cabin, NOT to opening any of the chests there. it's caused by the generation of the weapons locker when you enter it. and as the weapons locker isn't there in the tutorial or a boarding, the bug doesn't occur)
 
that's because pirate_kk would be the one who could fix it, but he isn't here. i already PM'd him. the problem has to do with his re-writ of the captains cabin.
