plz Give me the coreect Ships_init file so I can look if that's the part which it makes crashing

Here you go. Whenever you change code in a file, I recommend you make a copy of the original first. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

are all of Short Jack Golds files and fixs included in this update or should I install the update then SJGs files

thanks

There's some slight changes of SJG's that he released after Alpha 8.5, which you can install.
However, the changes are very slight and you can also just play the version already in the game.
Actually, since SJG didn't have access to my improved files yet, some improvements are not included in his newer files. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

captain matt<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->As Pieter says (above) play as downloaded 14.8-5 for now (with the mods mentioned here and there in the forum today) there are any major things you will be missing - just a little dialog stuff - nothing program-wise.

I am sure we will find other minor issues to address, so it will all come right in the end.

Thanks Pieter and Crew, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> ..... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

There's already been made a couple of new bugfixes, one fixing a problem that generates enourmous lag or a CTD upon talking to Silehard for the first time. This will be released soon, at the latest next weekend.

Pieter,

If you need any help with anything, like fixing bugs or whatever..

just say it, gimme a little explanation how to do it. And I'm you're Man^^

We can use PLENTY of help with PLENTY of things.
I'll post a Build 14 to-do list soon (maybe tomorrow) and then you can have a look if there's anything you can and want to do.

Okay, here are the bugs I've experienced thus far. If starting the game in windowed mode, it seems to randomly choose whether it will start with the correct placement on the desktop or jogged to the right and down, so the game becomes unplayable at startup. Still runs, but its just positioned incorrectly on the screen.

The there is the insta-kill by Malcolm. I've try doing some fixes, but I've not been able to get the game to start up correctly since yesterday, and I haven't changed a damned thing except suggested code fixes by hook or pirate_kk.

When I try starting the game in full screen mode, it constantly flashes, causing random desktop screens to show up from behind the game, and if you click at the wrong time, which is all too easy, boom.... CTD.

I don't know what was changed in the executable and or files, but something changed its display placement and full screen modes and it affected it in a BAD way.

Cap'n Drow

That is really very strange. The only thing that happened to the executables was that I replaced the icons and splash screen.
I do also have the effect that sometimes the game loads jogged to the right and down and I seem to have traced that to whether the game manages to stay "on top" during the loading or not.
For example, if I load the game and, while the splash screen is showing, I go open a website or something,
then the game will not load in the centre and I have to load again.
If I just wait and don't press any buttons as long as the splash screen shows, then it'll usually load in the middle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

O.K. I think I've found the problem with jerky movement and slow motion when arriving at port, etc.

For whatever reason <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> 18.5 does not like the player being on a "reload", "reload_back" type of location - and an action or dialog taking place at the same time.
Maybe it's checking a lot of data in case you are going back to sea for instance. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> (maybe similar to large ships cannon fire lag(?))Dunno.

I've got round it by, on landing, making the player and actor type and getting him out of the immediate "reload" locator, by taking two or three steps forward, and hey presto, all works fine from then on in.

I shall continue with this temporary fix till Hook or someone can get to the source of the issue. At least the game is playable now. In most cases the steps forward aren't that noticeable. There's just a lot of them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Someone probably needs to make sure the locators aren't on top of each other. When you go to port, you shouldn't be right on the locator that takes you back to the ship.

There's at least one locator somewhere in a town that instantly puts you back through the doorway you just left. It's impossible to get to that part of town by going through that particular gate.

The Nevis problem with missing portraits when you face someone may be the dock locator interfering.

I have no idea how these things work.

Hook

What locator in what town transports you right back where you came from? I had that in a jungle somewhere, except it was worse. You'd end up auto-reloading between two locations at infinitum. I found the fix for that one though.

I think Maximus had written some code to prevent some events like dialog from occuring when you're on a locator - maybe it could have something to do with it?

Prevent dialog from occurring when you're on a locator? That does NOT sound like a good idea. Unless it just prevents the auto-addressing.

When the portraits are missing in Nevis you can still talk to the person.

Pieter, I don't remember where this locator was. It happened right after I got Build 14 and I was exploring new islands. At that point, everything was a new island to me. Since I started by sailing from Barbados to Grenada, then north and eventually to Jamaica, it would have been one of the islands to the west. I don't think it was in Santiago.

Hook

Well, if anybody runs into it, let us know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
