don't be too sure. it would only play the cannons fireing at that exact time, not the cannons that will be fired after you close the menu as well. besides, what if he means enemy cannons?

Not as far as I am aware. As far as I remember, the game is supposed to pause during the menu. Try pressing the pause [P] key before opening the menu. Does that do anything useful?
once again, have you tried resetting the controls yet? could work.
i cant open the menu during pause, and i will try the resetting the controls i didnt know that it was important..
i think im going back to alpha 6 again.... with alpha 7 boarding goes very slow, alpha 7 plus not but sometimes you and your crew start under the deck.. and now i have alpha 8 WIP and it works bad, again...

I didn't play a lot with Build14A8WIP, but in the two or three boarding that I've done I didn't have any problem with performance.
I use CORPSEMODE=4.
What about new update of Build14A8?
