Build 14 alpha 9.5 crashes to desktop often

Andrei

Landlubber
This is my first post so first of all I would like to congratulate the people who are working on this mod, you're doing a great job.

But i have a problem when i try to play the hornblower storyline.
When I get on the ship to sail to the first island and the map loading screen apears the game crashes. Sometimes it doesn't and it lets me sail on the map but when i want to change back to sea view it closes again. So the crashes don't always apear in the same spot but they all happen after about 5 min of play so I cannot play normally.

This is the error log that i get

RUNTIME ERROR - file: battle_interface\ispyglass.c; line: 12
Cant create class: ispyglass
RUNTIME ERROR - file: battle_interface\ispyglass.c; line: 19
function 'InterfaceSpyGlassInit' stack error
RUNTIME ERROR - file: battle_interface\BattleInterface.c; line: 399
function 'StartBattleInterface' stack error

Also I have Vista installed and that may be the source of the problem.

I hope someone can help. Thank you.

The game works quite well for many people using Vista, so that shouldn't really be a problem.
Do you have any more information on exactly at what point it crashes?

Yeah usually during loading screens: from ship to map, ship to land and the other way round, once it happened as i was exiting a building

yes it is Build 14 Alpha 9.5 Patch 1

I think I'm going to try to play the build 13 and see if it crashes. If it does I'm going to play the original game and see if it crashes.

That way I'll know which build is causing the error or if it is something in my hardware configuration that is to blame

What do you think, Pieter?

Worth a try. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

So I tried to play build 13 and it still crashed but it let me play longer than build 14 before doing so.

After that i tried to play the original game. It crashed when I was entering Redmond port. It says that Runtime closed in an unusual way and the program was forced to terminate.

I don't know what to believe, something in my hardware or software is causing this but I do not know what.

If anyone has any ideas please help.

Thank you

Having the same sort of problems.

Game is very unstable and its getting really, really frustrating.
I very often crash after the boarding menu.

Makes is even more irritant when I captured and plundered 2 or more ships the game crashes and have to start all over again.
Sink one, go to shore, save,... sink one, go to shore, save.
Cant enter mayor battles this way,... very frustrating.

Also now the game crashes when using a potion trough the menu.
Not unavoidable but also no fun at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

My os is also Vista and I know this game was buggy from the beginning ,will try playing the vanilla to but I fear this is due to the extended modding.

If it would be possible to save and load during boarding and sailing, this would make it a little more tolerable.

I also experience some random freezes and other weird issues myself, but they don't seem to be related to anything just plain random. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
We do have a Save At Sea mod that will make it into a future Alpha at some point. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Might want to take a look at this:

<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=55" target="_blank">SwiftShader 2.0 for Vista Users</a>

What's SwiftShader got to do with Vista? That's software rendering for if the game crashes because you have an Intel graphics card.
Or am I being totally confused here...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Andrei, there have been people having troubles with Vista and the causes of these crashes are - so to speak - versatile.

Bottom line is, we first of all need you to post your hardware configuration, as some hardware is not very good at rendering the Storm engine/interface.

And of course, we also need to make sure, you are using the latest drivers to your hardware.

The only hardware issues with the game that I'm aware of is that the game simply won't run on most Intel onboard graphics cards.
Other than that, I'm not familiar with any particular hardware problems. Though if you've got a low-end machine, that can of course cause low FPS.

AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 at 2.00 GHz Performance Rated at 4.19 GHz
3 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1250 at 128 MB
Vista Home Premium Edition, 32-bit

I think that the video card isn't in harmony with the game.
As for the drivers they are updated.

So it's clear that build 14 isn't the fault. The fact is that I played the original game years ago on a much weaker PC and had no problems but I had XP back then, now my laptop shouldn't have any problems with it.

I've even tried playing in different resolutions and lower video quality but the same thing happens.

The X1250 isnt the problem, your rig is mighty fine, I am playing with an old X800XL.
Lower all program access in your controls panel to user level and like Pieter says, try XP compability mode and set your shortcut to start in Admininstrator mode. Apart for that, I am out of options on this one, sorry.

If I try to run it in XP compatibility it won't open and if I run it as administrator it still crashes during loading screens. Not always, it does seem that the original takes longer to crash

XP compatiblity doesn't work AT ALL? That's really strange... it's been working fine for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
