Build 14 Alpha

Well, I'd try to help you guys out. But I've not had time to start doing a WinMerge compare to see just what changed yet.

Give me some time and if either pirate_kk or myself haven't figured out what is up by the time Pieter is back, at least Pieter will be able to point us all in the right direction.

Perhaps while we wait, we should go back to Build 13 and find and correct the remaining bugs there first.

Or am I the only one who tests the quests for bugs and finds them?

Thats also an excellent way to spend our time, Petros. I'd like to see build 13 bug free and sailing free before we get too involved with Build 14 Alpha to be honest. **grins**

i've found out that you are only unable to go back to sea from your ship when at open sea. when going to your ship from the island using fast travel it doesn't happen. you are still able to get to the sea without problems. does this problem only occur when you walk to a different part of your ship and go to sea or does it do it every time you go to sea (except my method of course), when you haven't walked to a different part of your ship while on the ship?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Tried again, this time I placed the TutDecks folder back into
the decks folder. The game starts with the character in water talking to
Malcolm. So I could start the Stormy one, but a bit into the game I find
a lot does not work, like shortcuts to the cabin, deck. So that is not an
option. Looks like we do have to wait for Pieter!
So it's back to enjoy 13! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

i don't mind not being able to enter the sea from my ship, because i still can if i fast travel from the shore to my ship. what really kills it for me is that i can't board. it has the same effects when you go to the sea from your ship. i can't go back to build 13, becuase of a lack of space. i could eventually, but those temporary internet files have to dissapear again. also, i found another bug: improving crew morale doesn't cost anything! it might mostly, but what i did was: play stormy start, add some crew by talking to bandits, and straight after that, try improving morale. it's free!

Ok, I *Think* I have fixed the bug with going to the deck and back to sea (and probably boarding as well)

download the zipfile:
<a href="http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jaldridge1/POTC/Build14alpha_Fixes1.zip" target="_blank">build14alpha_Fixes1</a>
and extract to your POTC folder.

it should overwrite:
AISea.c and BOAL_Deck.c

Looks like it fixes the going back to sea problems, but no guarantees it doesn't break something else! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Edit: I've added the fix for the Malcom Hatcher tutorial I posted earlier too. So it should overwrite "both_reaction.c" as well.

Edit Edit: Ok, and I've put in a fix for the zero cost morale raising. (The download should now update ship.c as well)

that's geat! it solves so many problems for me. do i have to start a new game again? naturally, i'll report any problems i find here. there is one problem i found that was already in build 13. in point-a-pitre (the city on gaudeloupe) there are two locations where you can't talk to anyone and can't open any locations. no lock icon appears. the locations are the two places taken from falaise de fleur.

i've always been wondering about this: if you encounter a merchant on te streets, ignore him, and then kill him, do you get his goods? it would certainly be worth it, but take a lot of fun out of the game, as it would become to easy.

If you're talking about the ones with the one or two expensive special items, you can kill em and take the stuff, but you imediately get -100 reputation and become Horror of the high seas. And everyone attacks you.

If you're a bit sneakier, you can use the various thief equipment to knock them out or poisen them, then get the items without the huge rep penalty. (And yes, I've got a good bosuns choice from the first town I visited, and it makes combat very easy.)

I've found a bug with the fix.

Start a new game.
Tell your crewmembers you need some men to go ashore.
On the land, save the game
Return to the ship with the crewmember --> Black Screen.
Now, if you load your save, you have no black screen when you board the ship.

I'm sorry for all the trouble. I haven't actually tested it throughly. When I get back, I'll test it myself and see what I can do about it. Major thanks to Jonathan Aldridge for working on fixes.

I would recommend you try to playtest other parts of the game now that you found out the boarding/cabins don't work. You can try to play the tavern games or the new quests. Just check the featurelist and try to test everything on there to see if it works or not.

It's a shame it isn't really working properly, but we can't expect much better from a hardly tested first alpha, can we? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

so the problem still exsists while going to sea? does it still do so when boarding too? i might just as well not install it then so i don't have to start a new game again. i know it says in my sig that i do, but i don't yet.

Hi Nosie,

Did you install build 13 first, and then build 14 on top of it?

Just checking we're both working on the same version.

Morgan; if you have the space, you can make a copy of the POTC directory and have both versions installed. So you can play build 13 and test 14 for us! But I think the going to sea bug from the deck is fixed. I need to test the boarding part...

Edit: ok, on further investigation, some ships don't seem to be loading their boarding decks properly while some are... I'll look into it.

are you sure of this? nosie says that it wasn't fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> and no, i don't have the space. i'm only short by a little, but the size of my harddrive simply isn't big enough to install PotC with the mods twice. as long as there aren't to many game-killing bugs, like the one you likely have fixed, i'd gladly help testing build 14. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
i found something else: golds coins that you get from a chest isn't added to the gold you already have. you have it as a seperate stack. an excuse that it's of a different value wont work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

but do you have to start a new game or just re-initialise?

and hats off to whoever made that lugger VML. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" /> i've used it only for a short while, but i was absolutely amazed by all the details on the thing! anyone ever noticed the horse on the rear lantern? as detailed as can be!

Ok, it looks like a pile of the deck models went AWOL in the build14 pack.

I've added them into my fixes download at:
<a href="http://members.optusnet.com.au/~jaldridge1/POTC/Build14alpha_Fixes1.zip" target="_blank">build14alpha_Fixes1</a>

So this should fix the deck/boarding problem with the bigger ships.

Haven't done much more testing on it yet, so get back to me with what you find!

Ok, found this one as well. Fix is now in the above download

Edit: also added a fix for the Santiago tavern being closed at night.
