I believe you have to get and equip a compass, a new item in b14. There are cheap and good ones.

I think the merchants should actually have them, propably not all of the time.
But someone with more experience in pirating should be able to help you out. Try the "small" merchants inside towns, too.
the stall merchants could be the best place to find one. you don't really need a compass though. using the sun works just fine.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
to know the wind direction look at the flags at the top of your masts. And yes, the sun for direction though a compass is more accurate.
I couldn't buy the compass until I grew a level or two. Then I got it from the merchant, but I regret it as the guys outside have better prices.
