Burning Sea, only Internet Accessable?

Is Pirates of the Burning Sea only on the Internet to play, with a monthly fee? I think that is a little bit, well, hard to sell.

I think it's still too early to tell if it's only a P2P game "pay2play", altho I am not one to check there site or forum often

I think that it only will ever be playable on the internet through one of the servers that they''' set up.

Also it will be broadband only as running it on `dial-up` will probably be almost impossible due to the amount of data that you'll have to upload and especially download.

That was the idea of the game, guys. A massive `multi-player` online game...

This game is being designed for the `high-end` processors, with the `high-end` video cards, with the `high-end` ram, to be played over nothing short of a 1.5mbps internet connection.

It's a MMORPG indeed, so only online playing, but playing it with a crappy computer will be possible, but don't complain about choppiness :cheers

MMORPG's are funner better, in allways! ofcourse its gona be only multiplayer, they say so it is, and according to them it can only be orderd over the net, but MMOs are good, for the once who can afoord it.

I'll definately play it. A monthly fee doesn't bother me, and I have broadband. My PC is decent enough, I plan to upgrade, and the game looks awesome. Definately not worth passing up.

So, you are saing that Pirates of the Burning Sea are MMORPG or I didnt understand? And are they released yet?

Hmph! I have a `High-end` machine, but only a 768/512 kbps connection... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Everything is relative... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

On top of all that, you play as a boat. You have no human form. You are a sentient boat, that sails around that makes friends with other players.

This is what I am picturing when I think of this game.

Good stuff.

actually, on the latest screenshot you can see a captain standing on deck <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> So he represents you in the game <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Well how fun would that be? If not an independant human free to wander around a town, brawl, pillage, sqaunder? If your'e a boat how do you run a store or tavern in a town? I'm seeing that game more like Ultima Online where your character quests, builds proficiencies, wealth, prestiege.
IMHO

Edit: I posted the following post at PotBS forum, and it has become a hotly debated, 138 post thread with members of the development team taking part in the discussian.

I think that the POTBS developers will find there game will fail badly if they charge $10 a month for this game no matter how good it is. There is nothing wrong with the overall idea of making this game a MMORPG, but the type of people who play Pirate games is very different than the type of people who like the more common Dungeons and Dragons type of MMORGPs. People who play Everquest type of MMORGPs are the type of people who want to be completely immersed into a fanstasy world, and they want to be able to play this kind of game many hours a day, month after month, year after year. So $10 a month is actually economical for them considering the kind of content theyre after. Although people who play pirate games also want to play many hours a day, its usually not something they want to do for months on a stretch. I know alot of people who are really interested in POTBS but are just not willing to pay that much a month, myself included. I think the developers motivation has more to do with fustration with software piracy that eats a huge chunk of potecial profits. The nice thing about MMORPGs is that they are by in large piracy proof. So my suggestion is that the developers change the payment structure, like maybe $50 outright fee for playing online that will not expire for maybe 3 years. I garantee that alot more customers will be attracted to the game and will result in more profit and success for the game.
