busted pirate hunting quests

Sailor Apprentice
I have a letter of marque from spain and was told to go hunt an english ship off the coast. There was only one english ship i could sail to and for a few hours it kept telling me that i couldn't sail to him so i gave up for a while then came back and was able to sail to him. I enageed him but the wind changed and WOOSH off he went. It was the right ship becuase the spy glass told me the right name but alas the ship sailed off and out of my sights and i could no longer sail to him or catch up and now the govenor won't discuss busness with me anymore since i never sank the ship. Other govenors from spaion don't have any missions for me either. Is there a way to fix the quest so i can complete it?

I'd Say there are a few options available to you... first, get a faster ship... most of the time you can just sail up to them and blast be bejeesus out of them... but if its a fast ship youre against be sure to use knippels in the cannon, the more you damage the sails the slower the bastard sails... what about when you go yo shore, can you then get back on your ship and again "sail to" the english ship? because then it would seem that would be a good course of action...

but mainly, get yerself a faster ship, preferably with more cannons too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

but piratehunting i think is always a ship the same class as your flagship, so if you have a smaller and faster boat then you could perhaps use that to catch up with the enemy

Don't you believe in finding out yourself!?
I think that's half the fun playing a game!! As you play keep on saving, so you can go back if
something goes wrong or you make a mistake. I've played the game since the org. came out way back in 2003 and still enjoy it and still finding things out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

i've done nearly everything many times. i love it when i find some new content. which reminds me:

i've read somewhere that there are two quests you can get from thomas o reily, one of these being the cargo shifting with the reward of 1500. what's the other? i know it has something to do with that guy who doesn't want to talk to you in FDF tavern. who strangely enough dissapeared recently.

Well the problem is that after he sailed away i went about my business thinking "i'll get him next time" and have saved several times since then, then later when i went back to the govenor thats when things were broken so its a little too late to go back at this point.

Also has it been 4 years already since the game came out? Wow i've been playing it THAT long? There is only one other game I've played longer and thats American Mcgee's Alice. Most games I play get put on the shelf after a year or so when something newer and cooler comes out but this game keeps sucking me back in lol.

speaking of pirate hunting, i was surprised when the governor offered me more than 86000. there was a reason for that. it was a freakin' manowar! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

I captured my first manowar yesterday. Its huge and I'm loving it. I'm going out terrorizing the seas with it. its fun

you bet it's fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> try running ship's over. anything ranging from a brig or smaller is not really worth fireing on. just squash it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> on thing that's particulary fun is fireing chainshot with the thing. there's a large chance of destroying 70% of the rigging on a large ship with a single broadside. grapeshot is even more fun. then you can kill off about 500 crew with a broadside at close range.

RAMMING SPEED!!!!!!!!!! Whats fun is how the other AI ships react after one of the convoy is sunk in one or two broadsides. Usually the escort ships run and the merchants strike colors. My kids think thats really funny.

i hate it when that happens. they always scatter in all directions, letting most of the buggers escape in the end.
