Buying ships with new patch

ScottsBlood

Well, I downloaded the patch today. I have been playing around for an hour trying to get my character to level up and I decided now that I have enough money, I'll go buy a ship.

Well, I go to the shipyard and sell my lugger for a few grand, and then when I click on the ship I want to buy, the "Buy" button is greyed out. I keep getting a message saying that I must sell my ship before buying a new one. Okay? But there is no way to sell a tartana! Great! Now I have a little toy boat to sail around on. I have a few old saves, though. I wasn't aware that there was a problem before the patch regarding shipyard transactions, so I wonder why this was messed up during the making of the patch. You know, if it ain't broke . . .

I can't tell that officers gain experience any faster, either. The patch was so vague in what it "fixed".

Any Ideas or similar experiences? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

thanks to playlogic tester

It is just necessary to hire a free officer to do any sort of ship-swapping or buying now. No idea why it was changed, but oh well. I have a million bajillion dollars from trading chocolate so I guess I'll be okay with a few free officers.

Not to be too pedantic but....

None of the Playlogic testers wrote the code so whoever wrote that code needs to stand up and take the hit before any testers take flack. No testing process can catch all the bugs, particularly in such a target rich enviornment. Development is a team process and if you guys are playing the blame game instead of standing together then that's going to be a significant factor in the quality of the product.
