Can we INITIALIZE the game, like POTC

Long John Silver

Freebooter
Ahoy thar Mateys, may you always be sailin "upwind" when yer balast lets go! tew be sure enuff

Anyway what I wanted to post here to this forum is one that although has been touched on, in some threads....No one has brought it up directly I dont believe! So here goes!

In POTC, hitting "I" re-initializes the game again....so all ".init" files sort of "Reboot" I guess for want of a better word. I believe this was implemented by Nathan Kell, but again not sure on this either. Could we?, Should we? look into this maybe for AOP, especially in its infancy here... as we are playing around with hopefully lots of new coding and fixes. This would cut back on the number of New Starts as well.

Ahoy,

yeah, thought about that just today.
But have you ever taken a peek into the POTC Build's Reinit.c? That's a whole mess of POTC specific stuff and I really do not want to make sense of all that.
Maybe if there was an initial "Init", which one could just copy? I don't know.

I think the next best thing should be a Trace() fct back in the game imo.
I want to know, what's going on in there... ;)

Reinitiate code for POTC was done by Nathan K. and is specific for POTC, would not work for AOP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Yeah I see that there reinit file contains all POTC stuff but all its seems to be doing is calling up all the necessary init files and running them. This might work for most tests so long as it avoids the character_init.c so your character doesn't get reset. Maybe if we follow the pattern we might be able to make our own version. I am not up to task yet as I am still working the officer code. Maybe someone else wants to try?

Hey thats great guys, we at least have interest here, and we know what we can't do thanks to Skull. So that avoided looking that way first, waste of time porting something over if it wouldn't work in the first place. Hmmm, my theory of inquire, lead me to see about initializing the Characters_init.c as well, but thats where I seem to be trapped into a game now that, I cant progress, and looks like a complete restart, but if I could initialize my game, I could have continued.....oh well.

Also it seems that some poeple have finished AOP already....does the game END! just like that, or can you contiue in the AOP universe? That would be another thing we might want to implement...so the World of AOP continued.....adding things to increase interest in the future would of course come later

it would be great if someone could rewrite the Reinitiate code to fit AOP needs, however be sure to get POTC Modding Community's permissions first , this is not an option mates, its the way modding is done here at P.A. Just so you all know <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

just a thought but, why does AOP and POTC vary so much in files if they are near identical in-game?

its not so much there is a big diffrence.POTC has 3 Builds worth of Mod content, AOP has not, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
