Can we own a town?

I have attacked one of the english towns, but I couldn't capture it, I just pillaged it. Anyone knows how to capture a town?
I sail under dutch colors. Do I need to attack as a pirate?
 
You can't actually capture a Town until you are at the end of the National quest line I believe.

Eventually though, you can capture a town.

So we can capture towns excellent, i have a question aswell. Whats the benifits of capturing a town?
 
It looks like everything is still there to be able to upgrade a town, but I'm not sure if its actually enabled. I haven't played that far into the game yet.

The benefits of owning a town is regular income(you get income from Taxes), and bases of operation for when the Nationals decide they want to ace your butt for capturing their cities. **grins**

How much income? Because before I started over I was getting some 260k per month in interest from my savings. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
 
The amount of income is dependent upon how high you set the taxation rate. Set it too high though and eventually your cities people will wind up mutinying/revolting against you!

How do you get to the menu to set the taxes and so on????
 
IIRC, you modify the towns settings by speaking to the governor you put in the big chair for that town.

Then you get a conversation menu in which you can modify various things for the city.

I'm assuming that like the original AoP, you can eventually capture the entire Caribbean if you want to. You just need to remember to be ready to rescue a city that gets assaulted at a moments notice.

Again, I haven't played that far into this version of the game, so I'm going on speculation based on the original AoP.

i captured one city as a pirate, i am the town owner all the citizens gush over me, and if i talk to the troops they say the governor takes bribes and is crook, but noone in the governors mansion at all it seems i am the governor, but if i can change anything for the city i dunno who to goto or how lol.
 
I can't take over the town even when I have around 1000 sailors in 2 ships(Frigate and warship)
I destroyed the fort
storm the fort
then deal with enemy guards in town
I meet governor then only one option available is take some money and raid town
any ideas?
 
You haven't completed the national quest line. Until then, you can only pillage cities.

And I am correct. You need to have the officer you intend to be governor with you, then you speak to him inside the residence and tell him you want him to manage the town for you.

After that you can adjust the tax rate.

This info is all in the manual.

Not that I know of. You have to play through enough of the game to get to that point.

There might be a way to fix it, but it would take going into the code and specifically changing how that section of game is handled.

i got havana now but i cant set a governor or do anything with it

can u only collect tax?

also it seems my town is empty O_O
 
I think u cant take capital of nations, like havana is spains.

I manage to take Saint Martin from the dutch and give it to england but i cant take Curacau only loot it.

Curacaru is the dutch capital.

Would have been nice to get the last dutch city :)
 
in my last game i could't take panama and PortoBello from spain. i went to panama to the city gates but i could't get the option to attack the city.

and i read on the forum that PortRoyal and Villemstad can't be taken.
