Can you take a town for yourself or country?

Just something I've never done, but was wondering about:

1. Can you take a town for your own or your country? Example: Can me (as a loyal Spanish ship) take a fort and a town, and keep it flying Spanish colors?

2. Is 'taking a fort and town' just for looting and leaving, or can I keep it? Is it worth it?

3. Looking back on a previous forum post, I noted that someone said I can't take a town until I finished a quest of some sort. What quest would that be, and where would I get it?

Just throwing these questions out there. Thanks

U have to finish any of the Quest lines in the game for some nation or pirates. U can start as spanish guy the Cuba governer quests. There's in the forum some (kinda sticky) walktrough, but will give u the start and some hints.

It's hard to understand it in some places, so if u have skype - write me to Ispanecabg and we can help each other <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ok, so after I take a fort and a town, what then??? Does it remain in my control forever? Does it just switch to my nation's control and not my own? Does owning a port have any perks???

These are the questions for which I'm looking for answers.

Ok i got to this point, so i'll answer. When u get a town u can keep it for yourself or trade it to the governor - all is your choice.
Trading it: Gain ~1mil and reputation
Keeping it: Put in there Officer, and after some time u gonna have citizens, u can tax them as much as u want.

Congratulations on your success! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

1. When you trade it to a governor, is it a governor of your own nation, and does it remain in your nation's control?

2. If you keep it, do you get any perks for keeping it besides taxation? (Examples: Can you build anything up at the port, such as special buildings? Is the market better there for prices? Is your ship repaired for much cheaper? Can you choose to produce certain items in bulk with which to trade for profit at other ports - like food or gold ingots?)

3. Does the officer that you place in charge need to be special in any certain way to lead your city better?

1. Yes u can trade ti to your own governor and if u are spanish, the city will turn spanish too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
2. Will write u answer later with EDIT, just don't know yet <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
3. Yes, manual of the game is indicating u need trade and authority of the officer for more money.
