Cannon Smoke & Flames.....

Okay, I just love the new smoke & flames that have been done for build. I'd just like to know exactly what files and what lines were modified to create the new effects. I'd really like to do similar for AOP.

Thanks,

they are awesome arent they! Ship-to-ship battles are so darn realisitc looking/sounding, its an amazing feat imho <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I believe it was part of the new particle engine upgrade one of the modders did so hopefuly they will be along to give you details(and you can ask permission to port it over?).

Been working on just that, and slowly but surely I've been getting approvals from all of the active modders here. So far I've got approvals from Pieter, Thomas, CouchCaptainCharles, Jack Davidson, Hook and Jack Rackham.

Really hope I get more approvals from others that have worked on the build mod.

Thanks again for the interest in the odd things I have to say, Black Bart!

I think that the flames where the work of Merciless Marc. and i think that it was just a retextured flame, and no coding. I think that the smoke in AOP has to be Thicker(graphic) and stick around longer (coding)

Actually, I'm getting the hang of it I think. I just need the updated graphics. I'm getting the smoke thickened up and lasting longer based on some of that work. Just kind of peeking at the PotC files, then going over and making my own changes to my files. There are also separate sets of code for ships from class 7 to class 3, then Class 2 and 1. So have to make similar changes to 2 sets of code.

Definitely getting the smoke to be a bit thicker and last quite a bit longer. **smiles**

I'm just happy that MM included a release in the Cannon FX mod allowing free use of his work.

Merciless Mark edited:
- RESOURCE\INI\PARTICLES\particles.ini
- RESOURCE\INI\PARTICLES\ship_fire.ini
- PROGRAM\SEA_AI\AIBalls.c

And perhaps some other additional files; not entirely sure anymore.

Thanks again, Pieter. You are a saint amongst thieves. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I already downloaded the Cannon FX mod, and it seems to be working. I haven't incorporated everything from it yet, but I'm playing around with it.

I missed this topic, sorry ive been a bit in and out on these forums, busy now and then in real life.

Creating the texture was minor work, however rigging up the particles and coding was quite significant work. after i rigged up the particle perameters appropriatly i had to do some coding for the new particle systems as well as set up the new damage effects of the splinters <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

On a slightly unrelated note, is there any way to add more cannon holes to the ships? Because, right now, I find that there's too few of them for my taste. If my ship is down to 10% HP, I'd like visible damage to reflect that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That I haven't gotten to yet, not even sure where the ship damage is tracked and performed, Kazeite. And do remember, my original question was regarding how it was done, so I could do something similar in AOP.

I've gotten a pretty good rendition of it working for AOP at this point, kind of liking how it worked out. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this even better, I'm all ears. Thanks again to you all for your replies and assistance.

Merciless Mark: What files exactly did you modify and what all is involved. I'm pretty sure I've got the hang of it, but additional info from the gent that did the work for PotC would be very handy!!

Just watching over the files mentioned by Pieter.
Well, seems not to be easy to make it. Perhaps it will be more work, than the sailing issues. But then, the reward <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
