Cannonade vs Long gun -whats the difference?

hangar18

Landlubber
I know there is a difference in price but can any one explain how this translates to a difference in firepower. Is one simply better than the other or do they have comparative advantages/disadvantages?

Cheers.

Cannonade is quite a bit more devastating at close range, but has a limited range. Long guns have a much longer range, obviously, but the damage it inflicts is less. Typically, I use long guns, because there is nothing more annoying than being in some battle were they are pelting you from a distance and you can't get close enough to use your cannonades. If you do get in close though, you can really rip some things up with the cannonades. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

AND they sound better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

what i suggest is this: if your the island raider killer [as in, you kill and sink the coast raiders] kind of guy that rarely leaves a certain island, use Cannonades. use them when near islands. and when your leaving the island, try and get yourself a set of long guns. also take note that you can usually carry double the caliber cannonade that you can carry in long guns. so, for example, you have a limit caliber of 12 pounders. you'd be able to use 24 pound cannonades on your ship.

a question about the long guns: i've noticed that the 18 and 24 pounders both have the same range. shouldn't the 24 pounders have longer range? lately i have a tendency to use 18 pounders over 24 pounders, just because the 18 pounders have the same range adn a faster reloading time.

i don't really like having to swap cannons every time. it's so darn expensive! anyway, the 18 carronades probably have the most destinctive sound: you immediatly know it when the enemy has them. it's a big, low boom followed by an echo. pretty cool.

i'd rather not keep exchanging cannons as it's so darn expensive. the 18 pound cannonade has definatly the most distinctive sound: it's a big, low, boom followed by an echo. i'd recognise it anywhere! 'booooom.......<!--sizeo:1--><span style="font-size:8pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->boom<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--> "i know those guns!.....it's the pearl." <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jack1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j1" border="0" alt="jack1.gif" />

what i've always wondered about is that some ships have a 42 pound cannon limit. i presume that you can get those in the fort, and i know from which person, but when i force him to give them to me, they're not on my manowar. guess because he ran away, right?

You can get cannons from the fort?

In B13 you could only get bombs, or some random special weapons.

well, i think you can. you do have the option of forcing the guy to give you certain 'special weapons', and i think those are those cannons.

oi, mates. anyone know who can give me those 42 pounders? my MOW and BP are hungry for firepower <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

well, try it out, i'd say. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> be warned though: entering a fort is now considered an assault and will make the nation hostile. this can be strangely turned off in the buildsettings when you decide that accidental hits won't cause hostilities.

The "Special Weapons" are CCC's special weapons, Borgiablade, Thief's knife, Grenade, stuff like that.

oh. but what's with the 42 pound cannons then? i'm pretty sure that some of the ships can have them. it's to common to be a typo.

You can't get 42 pound cannons on your ship without cheating. You can get only bombs and special weapons from the forts. And fighting in a fort doesn't immediately make the nation hostile, I think.

That is the way I remember it.

Just checked the code and from what I understand, the nation who's fort you enter doesn't go hostile unless player actually manages to take it over and assign it to another nation.

To Morgan, the 42 lb guns are assigned to the forts, but I don't believe the player can take them from the forts.

well, i entered a fort, and when i had killed the soldiers that attacked me because i got caught, the nation became hostile.

why does it say that the ship can have those guns then? those silehard's ship have them or something? it would be a good idea, as it's actually a boss ship.

i know that at least some ships must have them. when i went to the QC Shipyard [or any other Pirate shipyard], they showed me an MOW which could carry 42 pounders. unusual for the pirates to have MOWs in the stock game, but after changing the settings to fit my taste in BuildSettings and InternalSettings, i've made it so that they could. the important thing is, the MOWs in QC and Tortuga CAN carry 42 pounders. how to get them, is the question. to be quite honest, i wouldn't mind cheating once to get hold of those things! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> i am an RN Pirate after all.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

hey..theres a good idea...Silehard's MOW having 42 pounders! then i can move it's cannons over onto the MOW of my choice [or maybe the Black Pearl with a few changes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" /> ]

let me get this straight: you want an enemy ship to have them so you can steal them? makes sense to me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> a rather silly thing is that i always learn the instant boarding ability, and because i have a manowar, i can always board silehards ship at the moment i see him after which he immediatly surrenders. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> those other ships are pretty easy to finish off after that. that is without doubt the easiest battle in the whole game if you have that ability. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> but i takes enough to finally get it. it's probably one of the most demanding abilities, and with good reason.

an RN Pirates life for me! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

i wonder....anyone know where 42 pounders are located? or whether i can make them available in Shipyards temporarily?

wait a sec...if i made the ship i wanted encounterable using the Ships_init file, and set it's guns to 42 pounders...would i encounter them with 42 pounders?

EDIT: Nevermind. i figured it out. i just had to edit the Cannons_init file to make the 42 pounders buyable.....now i really am a nightmare at see. lookout Morgan! the Pearl has 42 pounders! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/guns.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2guns" border="0" alt="guns.gif" /> i just hope it doesn't go <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/boom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":boom" border="0" alt="boom.gif" /> and blow my ship to smithereens... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> i wonder whether JPJ's Constitution can stand up to 36 of those! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

uploading onto my modding chest on the FTP, in case anyone wants it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

speaking of ships_init: nelson, you do have the new black pearl programmed into the game right? otherwise i wouldn't have it in the game now because you gave me that file for the changes to the gunboat.
