Cannot load the Redmond blacksmith

Hi,

I bought PotC yesterday specificlaly for this mod, and am enjoying it. However, I cannot use the blacksmith's shop in Redmond because when I enter the zone loads without any graphics, just a black screen.

I can still use the function keys to access menus, just not see the world.

My compile.log says this when I enter the area and then quit:

I used the build12full.zip and PotCMods.zip from this site, and have reinstalled the lot twice without any luck. Anyone able to help?
 
Download the PotCMods.zip version from the link in my signature and see if that does any good. The one on the main site isn't the most up-to-date one and has several known bugs. I'm having problems with the latest post 12 pack.

The game runs fine but the Apothocary and the opium den are empty when you go into them. Worked fine on 12.1. the blacksmiths are all ok too.

Any ideas? the locations are fine the rooms all ok and all the script modifications are in the oxbay and redmond c files, I checked manually. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I did a virgin install of POTC, patched 12.1 then put the post 12 patch on.

What version of my modpack did you install? The one from the main PA! site or the one from the link in my signature? The one in my signature is the right one, the one on the main PA! site is an older and more buggy version (including the bug where I forgot to add the apothecary character <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> ). But I'll be working on a new version today anyway.

I installed the 12.1 from the pirates ahoy site first as your readme said mod 12 had to be installed first. Then put the post 12 mod on afterwards from your link.

Do I just need to put the post 12 mod on?

I think you need Pieter's modpack update. In his signature, there are 2 downloads. If you got the first one (full Modpack) then get the second one (Update) and vice versa. Well now I am relly confused.

Tried a new install of POTC. Put on the post 12 full patch, and then the update patch.

Now on start up I get the POTC splash screen, and the Storm 2 screen. then the Storm 2 "blue Screen" disappears and the game fails to load. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Installing the post Build 12 modpack should be done like this:
1) Install stock PotC
2) Install Build 12.1 (and run RunMe.bat, if nescessary)
3) Go to the link in my signature, download the full modpack and extract it on top of your PotC installation
That ought to do it. You don't need to install the modpack update, because that is only needed if you already had a previous version of the modpack and don't want to download the full thing all over again.

Thanks Pieter, tried this on my server which is running an ATI card and it works. My Gaming pc is in the shop to get a motherboard change. The Nvidia Nforce chip fried when the fan failed overnight. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I have a question though. The Opium den and Apothacary residents disappear if I apply JMV's military skin update. Are you planning to include these in the next mod pack? They are way better than the original skins, and it seems this is what was causing the problem. It worked great with 12.1. Does it have anything to do with the new skins being used in Post mod 12? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I'll try it again on my games PC when it's back from the shop,a nd let you know how it goes.

I suppose that must be what is causing the problem yet. I'm working on implementing every mod I can find into the Build, so that also includes JMV's skinpack (preferrably with an on/off toggle for those who don't like it or want another skinpack). I would've already had them in there, but they had been causing trouble for me. But that was in the gray days when I didn't even have the faintest idea of how to code. Now I do have a faint idea of how to code; I just haven't got <i>more</i> than just a faint idea of it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Problem is, the way that pack (JMV's skinpack) is set up, it's set to overwrite code files.
Which is what causes the problem.
What we need to do is add a method for skin replacing, that will replace characters' skins and portraits on loading a location, rather than replacing them in the character define.
