cant beat the fort

Vengeance

Landlubber
no matter how many times i try i just cant beat the greenford fort when the main quest says i have to take it..i have alot of big ships but i dont do hardly any damage to it and before i can even fire my cannons 1 sweep of the forts guns takes out my whole crew and i cant attack anymore cuz either i reload and that takes forever or only one of my cannons fire at it
i have no idea what to do i cant go any further in the game after this point

First are you defense, cannon, accuracy, and repair levels high enough to be taking on the fort? If so, manually target and fire at the cannons, not the wall. If you hit the cannons, (and you will) they explode doing damage to the fort etc. Hope this helps you.

well i guess my stats are kinda low but it takes forever to get them up :/

Hire some officers with good defense, cannons and accuracy stats before you take the fort on. Oh, and what ships are you trying to take the fort with?

keith tried it with a xebec once. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> that didn't work very well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

If one salvo of the fort's guns takes out your whole crew, either you don't have a full crew to start with or your idea of "big ships" is different from mine. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> You should be able to take Greenford with a single battleship.

As well as good stats, you want the repair special abilities, especially the one which brings your hull and sails up to 10% at no cost in materials - it's literally a life saver!

Falaise de Fleur is easier than Greenford, so try attacking that a few times before going after Greenford. Successfully attacking a fort a few times will do nice things to your stats. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

oxbay is even easier. turk island is the smallest, but taking it causes a black screen. oxbay is the second smallest, and the best choice for a beginner in this area. be sure to be well-equipped to fight the fort's soldiers though.

The nice thing about Falaise de Fleur is that if you approach from the south, you're screened by a big rock. Forts' guns always outrange yours, but all Falaise de Fleur's shots go into that rock until you come out from behind it, at close range, ready to shoot back right away. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Wouldn't attacking Oxbay cause problems for the main quest if you do it before Silehard turns against you? Falaise de Fleur is fair game at any time. (Except when you're doing the escort mission, but you probably don't have a suitable ship that early in the game anyway!)

yes, i'd thought of that. in that case, douwesen is good too. it's got lots of guns, but you're only fighting six at a time if you do it right, as the fort is in the shape of a half circle. beware that you keep out of range of the port guns though. redmond isn't very difficult either, but you do have to hang in there for a while until you get the upper hand. the reason why it, dispite it's large amount of guns, isn't very hard is because you disable them at minimally 4 at a time. add to that that the fort's round, and it becomes quite easy. the trick is to exit the port, sail to the bay left of the lighthouse, and then launch a surprise attack if england's not hostile. the best moment would be when you have to meet up with danielle for the second time at the lighthouse.

yeah i was tryin to take that fort with the new black pearl and it only has about 300 guys in it so i got killed off pretty fast but i got a new favorite ship to use its the heavy warship which is one of the best ships to use cuz its got alot of guns, its pretty fast and and can turn good, and its got enough crew to get the job done without costing me an arm and a leg in crew costs

true, it's good. but i swear by the manowar. redmond fort managed to knock off about 8 or 10% before i destroyed it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> there's professional ship defence for you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I have destroyed Grenford fort by two frigates. One of them never made it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

aye, that's possible. 42+42 makes 84, which is more than a battleship. they have a combined hp of about 9000, which is not that much less than a battleship. works in my book! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
