Can't enter Oxbay?

Hi All,

Hoping one of you maybe able to shed some light on a persistant crash that I experience every time I try to enter Oxbay. I have build 11 (euro) installed and have been playing POTC for ages, however I've never finished the main game! I'm quite happy just trawling for plunder and glory, but it's just got me stumped.

When I go back to Oxbay, escorting the troop ship and I have to meet the spy in the tavern, every time I try to enter the town, the game crashes back to Win Desktop... with an engine.exe error.

Though it dent my pride, I must admit that this problem is beyond me. I have read every word of every post relating to POTC crashes on this site and I have tried:
- the "T" trick
- the "I" trick
- going back to an earlier saved game
- starting a new game
- reinstalling the game and build (tried save games and new game)
- uninstalling game and fresh installing (tried save games and new game)
- Sinking troop ship to try to change the order of events
- Allying myself with the French so I can enter via the port (this allows me to "fast travel" to the shipyard, tavern, shop, etc, but when I try to leave any of these fine establishments it still crashes!)
- installed Omega Nvidia drivers

I have never had any other glitches or problems or bugs (for which I'm eternally grateful) in hundreds of hours of game time, so I don't think it's a system or compatibility problem, but this crash happens every time!

Ship Boat doesn't have fire places

Any help would be appreciated. If it helps, I have 5 officers and only one ship and I have not made any mods to buildsettings.h, etc. It's not the end of the earth if this is terminal, because you guys havve created such a fanntastic game, that I'm quite happy just playing witthout following the quest, but it would be nice all the same.

Have you run the Build Update as there are a couple of bug fixes that weren't included in the standard download for the Build?

The update can be run by using the Build installer program and ticking the Update and the Euro option and it will then connect to the internet and download and install the update.
IIRC the uodate is only about 200KB
 
Yea, I tried it just on it's own first and also as part of the full install process when I tried that too. While I'm sure it does many wierd and wondeful things, it doesn't stop this crash. Its like there is a corruption in the textures or geometry of the oxbay streetscape files. the game has no probs in the port, jungle, outskirts or inside the tavern, only entering the street. (AAARGH!)
 
well it appears that I have a similar problem to you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> i'm doing a quest for the church and i have to meet some spanish barque at oxbay. anyhow, when i get near oxbay and press spacebar, the game gets stuck at the loading screen and i have to `re-boot`.

Your problem <b>is</b> cured by running the update as that is one of the bugs that I know it cures.

Are you docking at Oxbay or have you docked at one of the beaches or Greenford and went through the jungle?
And can you enter Oxbay OK just after the tutorial and when SIlehard asks you to gather information?

I have no trouble entering oxbay at the start of the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> (Sell goods, repair ship, etc) French attack and i go to Redmond. SIlehard sends me back to gather info. I do this and sneak in through the jungle and have no problem getting in <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> and finding out about the munitions ship at Flarais de Flu. I go there, sink the ship and head back to Redmond for reward. SIlehard sends me back again and BOOM!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> Trouble strikes.

I have tried going through the jungle again (after fighting french on shore, etc) and as soon as i open the gate, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> screen goes blank and drops back to win desktop.

I have tried going back to Flarais de Flu and getting relations back on track with the french so I can moor in oxbay port (which works) but again, as soon as i open the gate, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> it drops back to Win desktop.

If I fast travel to Tavern, I can speak to agent about french ship going over to the english and fight the french guards inside the tavern, but as soon as I open the door to leave tavern and run to shipyard - guess what? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> BOOM!!!

It is definately specific to this part of the storyline. Interestingly, it use to happen in the original game (pre build) occasionally. but then it crashed all over the place back in those dark dark days of Disney...

As it's an engine.exe crash, would it help to get a new copy of this file (eu version) from someone else?

I´ve got the same problem, but not in the Oxbay quest in the main storyline, but in the Satanist quest, whem I´m told to sail to Oxbay to meet with the barque. As soon as I go from the world map to the sailing mode, the game crashes totally. Nothing works but switching power off.

I hope you can help me, I´m using Build 11 and have no `I-Net` connection on the PC PoTC is on.
 
Now, I´ve tried to download (via using the Build 11 installer) _only_ the update files. I´ll try to copy the files that it DL´d into the right folders, hopefully that works.
 
I recomend installing Build12 and get the updates. This will probably solve the problem <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I´m just getting the build 12 all in one file ( <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> to Pieter Boelen). For one reason or another the online installer didn´t work with me.
