can't get out of oxbay (spoilers)

i'm at the part where you meet tobias, and go in his ship, but how do you get back to redmond? i tried fighting and running, both did not work. i was going faster than the french ships, sailing away from the island, but i never got a map option


also, if i try to do other quests, my reputation decreases to rascal, is this normal?

finally, once the game is over, can you continue to play?

The only thing that occurs to me is that you didn't get out of the range of the French ships, or pirates if you have Build 11 and they appear as well, and so you didn't get the map option. Did you still see the red ship figures on your "radar screen"? You can still be in range of the enemy ships even if you can't see them on that screen, however, possibly you can try sailing aound the island rather than directly out to sea, but I don't recall the French ships chasing me very far away from Oxbay when I was playing that part.

I'm uncertain how you ae working on other quests if you can't get away from Oxbay, but your reputation shouldn't be affected by doing one quest over another, Did you borrow money from a Loanshark and not pay it back? Or fail to deliver a cargo, or not pay your crew? these are the things that usually hit your rep. (That and killing people for fun, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> )

Yes, if you have Build 11 or one of the modifications on the POTC modding site on the main PA page. The original game ends at a certain point and you have to start again , or not finish the main quest, if you want to keep on playing.

just to get it straight, if i have build 11, even after the main quest, i can continue playing?

For oxbay problem , from what you have said i understand that you manage to kill some french soliders at the port then you boared your new ship ( the french corvette ) but you couldn't run away from the french 3 ship ( battleship and 2 frigates ) . Ok the best way to handle the issue of running away from the port with no trouble at all is to destroy the french 3 ships before you do this quest . At any time before this quest you can sail to oxbay water and fight those ships and sink them ( you can't board them ) . After sinking them you can do the topias quest easlly so when are sailing away from the port you have just to run away from the fort cannon that is fireing at you . I've found that if you take a look at the French ships ahead of you and raise all sails and do a "sail to" to the ship that is furthest away (watch for the arrows indicating the ship when you move from icon to icon), you can usually catch a good breeze in your sails and beat them out of the port.

If you are having trouble sailing away from ships that are following you, load your cannons with balls and continually fire your sternchasers at them as you escape.

Take a look at them in your spyglass - if you have a good spyglass it will tell you how fast they are traveling - and if you are moving slower they will catch you (so turn and give them a couple of broadsides as you escape) - but if you are moving faster, you will eventually outrun them... Get your ship on a good heading with favorable winds, and take your hand off of the mouse and hit the "G" key. It will give you 10X speed - and the time expended running won't seem so interminable. Keep hitting your spacebar as soon as you are reloaded, and your sternchasers will fire at your pursuers if they are in range.

i just loaded grapes as soon as i could and then it was heading directly out of port with wind directly from behind, gave that battleship a good blasting on my way past it too...

pulverised its sails acturally...

What to do Fred_Bob ?? I found this is the best way to sail away from the port , I have just to take care of the fort .
