Can't use more of your ships in sea battles...

Yup, you can only use one ship in your fleet. I just read it in an article (an older one).
Does anyone know how other pirates games's systems work when you have more ships?

Port Royale 1 and PotC both allow for the use of multiple ships in battles. The other ships in PotC seemed pretty useless in my experience, but I recall the original Port Royale sea battles were quite good; that's why I (and many others) were disappointed to hear that Tortuga (Pirate Hunter) and Port Royale 2 limited the player to 1 ship in battles.

The argument against multiple player ships in battles (as far as I understand it) is that it compromises the oppoent AI.

Is that true that we will not be able to use many ships in sea battle in PR 2 ?? thats totally unfair . How can I beat many enemy ships with one single warship even if it is a liner ??? :x

I'm not really concerned about this, as I only ever used one ship in POTC 'cause my experiances with more than one wasn't exactly great, they all got themselves killed quicksmart, so this is ok with me.

Sam, if you've played Tortuga you'll find it's not too difficult to win when seriously out numbered and out gunned (as long as you've got a relatively fast ship). I expect PR2 will have similar (but hopefully more advanced) sea battle gameplay.

I did play tortuga and pirate hunter for short time but I didn't complete both games because I didn't like the sea battle system of fighting with one ship . For you Gunner , I think you can't compare the sea battle in PR , tortuge and pirate hunter with POTC !!! it is totally different . I agree with you that in potc one great warship ( class 2 and above ) can take many other ship . After all I think I have no choice then to wait for the game and see ...
