Captain's log

I used to do something similar in Seadogs. You could edit your logbook whenever you wanted, (by opening a specific file in Notepad and alt-tab) and I was writting all that was happening : ships captured, cargo & gold seized, crew loss, storm, pay at the end of the month, trading operations at the store house, etc... And things I made up or transform a little. A true captain logbook. I was even hiding some facts - shagging deals - in case someone ingame could use my logbook against me... you never know, a captain shouldn't trust anyone!

About Redmond, you know that in stock PotC and in some early Build version the two town exits were switched. That was corrected recently, that might explain your mistake.

That is a funny Captain's log. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Wonder what happens if you get a bigger ship into your logs. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
Oh and don't forget RAMMMMMMING SPEEEED!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

yes, that WAS a funny one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> but it get's better! i sure hope i'll be able to finish the next entry, for you will L-O-V-E IT! it's turned into a complete classical pirate novel, without me intending it! you've got something to look forward to guys! i really hope i'll finish it. there's little time.

Teehee! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

I was hoping you to sail a corvette ..but you actually got a barge with shi(P/T)load of CARGO! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

don't worry, i'm heading for FDF next! going halfway round the archipelago isn't exactly something you do in a few minutes with directsail. i sure hope at least some of the governors will talk to me. otherwise i really am screwed. fleuts are actually not that bad. the problem is that i have to find a way to get rid of that ebony, probably by smuggling (i really need to find the island where to do that) and find an island with a cave where i can attempt to fix the ship. i'm not sure, but it think i could smuggle ebony on redmond. damn it. that means i can go all the way back! i'd better check. i don't really feel much for doing a full circle round the archipelago with a full hold. i sure hope the shipyard was added to QC in this build version.

Heh! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Okay. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

well, i've continued with the game, and it comes down to this:

i'm now about to leave QC. i have two ships, both new. my financial and moralical situation is better, although not my reputation, and i made a major dicision concerning what to do next. i probably won't be adding a new entry this weekend, and if i do, it will probably be the least best yet. however, i'll see what i can do. maybe i'll post a double entry next time.

It was already in Build 11, if I remember correctly.

yes, i already found it. i'll try to see if i can get the new entry up tomorrow.

sure looks like this is generating a lot of interest. i don't think i could make a new entry tomorrow, due to other things i have to do, but i'll see if i'll manage.

"I sold piece of shit called fleut". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

LOL. good one!

that's not the new entry, but anyway. i'm going to extend the entry for today. it's going to be a double one, if i manage to type that much in the time i have.

Great read, Morgan. I'm wondering if I can sail real time like that in regular Mod Build 13 or do I need another mod enabled? Also I really like Virtual Sailor's idea about an editable in-game logbook. I wonder if there's any way we could do that (and in a perfect world each entry would automatically time and date stamp).

well, you need to manually install the mod, which you can download from the FTP. it should be in CCC's files somewhere. installing is just a copy and paste job. no new game required.

i've just realised something disturbing which should be mentioned in the sparrow's search:

currently, i'm 32 days out. <i>where is the demand for payment!?</i> i wonder if i'll keep on sailing like this for several months, i'll be swamped by payment demands. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> maybe i'll only have to pay once. maybe never? this requires investigating. either noone sailed for more than 30 days straight using directsail, or noone else noticed it yet.

ah! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> well, it isn't so funny at times. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> for instance, i experienced two crashes just yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> still, i've made some very good progress.

That would complicate matters. I can imagine that the payment interface only works on the worldmap; that'll need to be fixed for Build 13. DirectSail must be a proper alternative for worldmap sailing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i have noticed though that i would occasionally get the interface on land, when i would be teleported there for a quest and the payday would pass as a result. i'm not sure if it also happens when the payday passes while on land, by selling stuff, for instance.

<i>Adventure Galley</i>!!! That was my first good ship! 20-gun Sloop! Give it back! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Good read there, really enjoying it.

Right now I'm on a new replay myself. Still Captain Fairfax but I'm using the Nathaniel Hawk (Default) model. My main ship's still the Caravel MM, <i>Insurgente</i>, that I got in that little story writeup I did in the other thread. Her captain is still with me. My core crew is made up of a tough boatswain (Laura Croft model), a real tough gunner (Big Seaman with the bad eye) and the <i>Insurgente's</i> old skipper - slightly less cowardly than before, a great carpenter and navigator (Merchant Captain with old tricorner hat).

Along with <i>Insurgente</i> I captured a pirate Xebec (the Catalina design) called <i>Delight</i> and it really is - I just love seeing it through my spyglass. Beautiful vessel. Odd that a Mediterranean ship like that would have Celtic designs but, hey, pirates were the original "Pimp My Ride" gang.

I've generally stuck with those two ships and my core crew all the way through even when "better" ships and officers come along. Gives the game more continuity for me and my officers are slowly improving. I use the <i>Delight</i> to warehouse other skilled crew and keep at least one all-around prize captain aboard my flagship.
