Caught in a Storm

Hey all,

I'm new to PoA and to pirates games in general and I have a question:

When you find yourself in the midst of a storm, how can you avoid damage and gain as much experince as possible?

Fred Bob usually strikes his sails tew half-way and den puts de wind tew his back! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Oh, yeah, an' steer away from de twister! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

You'll receive some damage no matter what. Imagine a real twister at sea, surely fish and what not are flying around hitting your ship, regardless of the outcome your ship will need a new paint job at the end of the storm lol.

but sometimes you have to fight the storm
but dont worry a simple lugger can surrive two storms in a row

unfortunatley AoP's storms arent realistic, then again neither is the entire HP system. but in reality, a ship wood ship could last a very very long time, her hull dosent really break much, but its the mast and rigging thats in danger and the risk of getting compleatly washed over and filled with water by storm waves.

Standard procedure: strike all sail and turn <i>into</i> the wind. That's the way they've been doing it for centuries. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

So what is it then? Sail against the wind or sail into the wind.

Same thing, isn't it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

But, in sea language, you should use the latter...

Aye, Skull, it's good to see you, too! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> I've only had time to play a little; but coming froma family with a long Naval history, your best bet of survival is to set your bow into the wind and hold it there. Otherwise, you risk being swamped or rolled. Even modern vessels adhere to this practice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Of course, you can always roll the dice and catch the wind off an aft quarter, clap on as much sail as you dare, and pray your masts aren't snapped like kindling... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

heh! dam storms <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> After a lucrative sea battle with four ships, was head'n fer a friendly port fer repairs, hit a storm sail'n into port, when switched from map mode to sea mode was close to shore and was rain'n with very small waves and no wind, in fact was fairly calm, had about 12% left on me hull and all ye could do was watch my hull damge bar drop to nuth'n and watched her sink <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Aye, mateys, de neat thang 'bout storms is de longer ye ride 'em out, de mo' experience points ye rack up! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Sometimes Fred Bob be stayin' in de storm even after de global map becomes available jus' to milk it fer all it be worth! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
