Clean installer?

Well I guess my topic title says it all?

Is it possible to create a clean full installer including all updates etc.
So you have a full installer pack with everything the mod has.
This would make installing a lot easier tough.
Instead of installing update over update etc. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Good work tough on the mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
But I still get quite confused sometimes reading about it on the pages.
Not quite sure if everything is working or not with contradictions.

I'll be sailing away now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Bye

I take it you want this specifically for the Build 14 Alpha version? After all Build 13 is relatively easy to install. To answer the question: Yes, it is possible. But it takes ages to upload. A this point I think the full Build 14 Alpha pack might be as large as 700 MB or more. That is one full CD! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

and that's when it's still zipped. i'm starting to doubt that the entire build mod up to b14a8 will even fit on my harddrive. everything altogether would be more than 1100 MB. that would take days for some to download.

If you need someone to host files I can do it. I have a lot of bandwidth doing nothing and a lot of server space.
I am also able to download 24/7 if necessary <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> 1.1GB is nothing when you considered I can download 10x that every month <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />. I could get the file down in 8-12 hours if its 1.1GB. Sinch <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Of course I'd need to know where all the files are before doing anything <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> But I'd be more than happy to do this till the exe installer file gets out to the public download sites (like filefront, node, ect.)

Edit: I also mean that I can compile the Installer.

It would be great if you could put the files up somewhere. My site used to be pretty reliable, but apprently not anymore. I'll try to do what I can about it, but it'd be great to have another place where to find the files. At the moment they can only be found on the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10288" target="_blank">PotC Build FTP</a>. If you could get them from there and put them up somewhere, that'd be great! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Sure thing, I'm at present not using my bandwidth Quota (like 2mb of my 1.2TB) so I can provide that service for you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
I'll get a website up and running, then let you know <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Meanwhile don't everyone go crazy and use up my quota or I kill you :p

Just another question as well. Would you like me to build a standalone installer for the next build? Because I am prepared to go ahead and do that but I need to know what files I need to put into it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

So basically all the files needed to get from 1.0 to Build 14.8. This is probably the easiest way to do it, else we're going to have to install all the build mods up to now and just ship the complete game in an installer (which is illegal but frankly bethesda can go f**k itself :p)

Could I help in anyway to rename some files to a better name?
So the files would be ordened by ship etc?

I see some file names like h_brtlut1_18 etc
Does anyone still know what it does?

Pretty hard to find things? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
Maybe I can help cleaning up the names and so on.
That would make it more organized perhaps? And easier to follow on what is changing.
I see files with numbers and CAPITALS and _ all together.

Just let me know what I can do, maybe I can even help to sort it out in the coding, make it nice and clean.

(Srry if you guys might find me hammering on this, lol, but in my mod for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory it was very important to use correct paths etc and its a lot easier to read if you can see what the name of a file represents in each folder)

Is there any captain here that could take me aboard this mod? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

don't touch those model names. h_brtlut1_18 is the head model of a British Lieutenant model, without it, or renamed, the brtlut1_18 model doesn't has a talking head in the dialogscreen. You can clean the code, but the modelnames should be untouched if they work correctly.

Aye aye,

as long as the names are making sence <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I am not changing anything because I don't even know if I am accepted yet to this development team.
Don't know everyone <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Admin, add my email plz, hugo_cox@hotmail.com

Once Build 14 is finished, we will of course make a Build 14 full installer, which will not require any previous modpacks. It should be similar to the Build 13 installer. It would be nice to have a Build 14 Alpha 7 or Alpha 8 Full installer though. This should contain all files from Build 13 and the Build 14 Alpha files.

It would be nice to have some of the things cleaned up. Pirate_KK already did do some cleaning in Alpha 7, but some more cleaning wouldn't be bad. As long as it doesn't cause any new troubles. Changing filenames without changing the appropriate code would cause major mayhem. The numbers in many of the filenames refer to the modder who made the skin/model. At on point in the past when we had many people working on the mod, this was required to make sure not two people would come up with the same filenames.

Of course one thing to keep in mind is: Don't fix what isn't broken. Changing lots of filenames does pose the risk of breaking something. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

We accept everyone into the modding team who wants to help. Basically to be in the modding team, all you need to do is to mod some stuff and submit it for inclusion in the Build mod by posting it on the forum, uploading it to the FTP or sending it to the modpack compiler's e-mail address.

Just a thought but couldn't you guys make these files available as a torrent? If you look at commercial games like WOW, they use a peer to peer system like torrent to propagate their updates. Even if it is available to download as a zip by FPT, torrents can be faster and more suited to larger files. It also reduces the used bandwidth of any one file host, even if they are seeding the file.

Then a lot of people need to leave their computers on all the time. We actually had a torrent at one point, but I think it pretty much died out. Don't even know where it is anymore. I prefer direct download links; much simpler to download. But if you want to make a torrent, feel free. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
