how can i extend the colony from village to town or bigger???

You can't! It will get bigger as you play.
You can configure the game before you start,

For me, colonies didn't expand entirely without my assistance. For the colony to expand to the next level, I need to buy all the buildings available at the current level. Most of these will have requirements for population size and loyalty, and <i>those</i> increase gradually with time.
