consistent crash point

pilgrimboy

Landlubber
Hi.

First, thanks for the mods. I haven't played this game since it first came out, but I saw the mod while just cruising around on the internet. I have been playing as much as possible for the last week and a half.

I've read through the forums trying to find a fix to this problem. I failed. If it has already been addressed by somewhere, please let me know.

My game consistently crashes (5 times in a row) everytime I go to the shipyard. I would like to sell one of my ships.

I wanted to try and check to see if it was just this shipyard, but when I click on the map screen from the port to sail to another port, it also crashes.

I checked for an error.log file. No such file exists.

I'm using build 12.1.

Is this a normal problem? If I remember correctly, a problem like this was why I originally quit playing the game when it first came out.

Do I just have to back to an earlier save?

Thanks for any help.

We never heard of that one before. For all I know, Build 12 should work just fine. Sounds like your computer is acting odd... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Can someone download my saved game file and see if it crashes on their game. It crashese when I try enter the repair or selling screen at the shipyard or when I click on the map icon from the harbor. This would tell me if it is just my computer.

I would but my game is a crash machine.
sry matey.

But hey have a pint o grog on me.

I have no installation of Build 12.1 at the moment. Your save would crash on my PC as well, but simply because the save wouldn't be compatible with my version of the game... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Isn't the build 12 mod unfinished and still has lots of bugs...

if thats true my suggestion Install b12, post b12 and the 05-03-06 update.
AND NOT TO INSTALL THE b12.1 mod.

all of those files can be found on Pieters site.

As far as I know, build 12.1 was build 12 updated for a few bugs, and is the only version of it currently available. If you have build 12.0 I have no idea where you are getting it. Post build 12 must be installed on top of build 12.1, and if you did not do so, that could very well be what's causing the crashes.

Now to pilgrimboy, have you tried backuping up your saves, uninstalling, wiping the directory and then a fresh install? Also, was it a fresh game post installing build 12.1?

Eh scratch what I just said about fresh install, I just made one in preparation of doing some testing and downloaded your saved game; crashed for me as well.

Lol something is wrong if it's bugging on another comp too.
Good news thou means it's not YOUR computer.

Thanks for checking. I think it might have to do with one of the ships I just gained control of. Because I landed on the island, went to the smuggler's camp, did the quest to pick up the idols for the governor (maybe it is the quest items), then came back to town. It seems that it could possibly be linked with the ships because the only crash comes from the shipyard or going to the map.

I also had tried a clean install.

That's good and bad news. Now I have to go back to a save that doesn't have the problem, but I'm not completely sure what the problem is.

Hello thar pilgrimboy, you shouldn't have to worry to much about that, if it is a bad save or something like that, a previous save that doesnt crash will probably work.....just do something different for awhile, and don't get the "bad thing" the second time through...

hehehehe....I know easier said than done aye!

Just in case anyone is doubting this: This is correct. If we say "Build 12", we mean "Build 12.1". There are two gameversions: Build 12 (most stable) and Post Build 12 (requires Build 12, contains a lot of additional features and a lot of crazy bugs). I hope this clarifies matters. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

That sounds exactly as the game-crashing bugs we have been experiencing a few weeks ago and that we finally managed to fix after a lot of effort. You say you use Build 12 though. Are you sure you are not using any Post Build 12 version? Please check your main PotC folder and see if there is a "Post Build 12 Version.txt" in there. If there is, you are using a bugged version of the Post Build 12 mods. A bug we know how to fix.

Sadly, I am just using build 12.

The text file "buildinfo" had this as the first line: "Pirates of the Caribbean Modding Team Build v12".
