Constant crashes

I also had problems with the game crashing after a few minutes.
Now i've disabled the all programs in startup in msconfig (run->msconfig), and i also disabled all usb devices in device manager, and now i can play pirates for hours without crashing. The only thing i still want to do now is find out if its the usb or the msconfig that stops the game from crashing.
Maybe this works for some of you guys too.

Read the last post on page #2....it's worked for everyone that I've talked to so far. The game stops crashing, but some people have texture issues afterwards. Hope it helps.

I am having the same problem too. Here's my data:

Well same here: constant crashed that stopped after setting the video level to the max. the gamesquite slow now but seems to work!

nothing works for me: got the newest and the 4.9 omegadrivers, video settings to max, the tool to emulate t&l and changed the `start-up`-configuration

got an athlon 2500+ with an ati adeo `9500-9700` and 512 mb ram. if someone has a clue...

Re: Same Issues

<!--`QuoteBegin-adamcb`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(adamcb)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I'm having almost constant freezes/crashes too. I actually just received one of the Microsoft "Serious Errors" that sends the email to Microsoft and points you back to a page, claiming it was an error caused by the Nvidia video card. Makes sense, from what all of you are also experiencing.

I'm running XP Pro on a P4 3ghz. Video cards are a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra AGP with 256 mb and a GeForce FX 5200 PCI with 256 mb as well.

So, it looks like the `upper-end` video cards are creating havoc for Pirates.

I just hope Sid & Co. do a better job supporting this game than they did with Civ3.

This stinks - I can't get more than `5-7` minutes into the game before a crash that `Control-Alt`-Delete won't even fix.

Adam[/quote]

Exactly have same problem with Video card (MSI FX5600256Mb), NForce2 MB, 1Gb RAM, Forceware 66.93 driver, XP SP2....
notice is hereby given that happend only one time during played session (`4-5` hours), frequently after starting game (roughtly first `10-15` min of playing)
get black screen then rebooting after traveling on open sea, or (one time) after resuming paused game....Problem persist in display driver (infinite loop in nv_disp.dll)..... from WinXP recived this message

There are some problems with the intel grafic cards... Atari are aware of this and are working on a patch. For some the game will stop crash if you adjust all the video options to max

I have same problem as Brausepaul, with same symptoms, it crashes whenever there is a mojor graphics change, i.e. going to a battle, or city. I have the same texture glitches.

I am using (sadly) onboard Intel 865G with latest drivers and such, DX9.0c and so forth. Would love any ideas on how to solve this. P4 2.8Ghz (`non-HT`).

I have tried to adjust resolutions and screen area, refresh rates, HW accelleration, all the basics.

I am stuck, (while traveleing for work in Hungary) with an old Monitor with a low refresh rate, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Any help is appreciated...

Hey Brausepaul, ive been following your threads here and on other sites closely, becuase you have the same video card along with other hardware as my brother does, and he was having the exact same problem.

After digging around, unfortunately, the solution is this, as it is posted on the video card manufacturers site (and buried in the Pirates! beta test forums):

The Intel® 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller does not have "T&L", which stands for Texture and Lighting. Hence the consistant crashes. Apparently (through the grapevine) Intel is working on a driver for this, but at the present time, there really isnt a fix for Pirates! coming down the pike from Intel.

I found on another forum a list of cards that do not support T&L, which Ill post when I can get to my brothers labtop again. We're talking about `4-5` video cards.

If your having problems, see if your card supports T&L.

Side note: Im no expert, this is just after digging around the net for 3 hours. So please, if you have the Intel 82852/82855 and found a workaround, by all means post it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

possible `work-around`

I've got a laptop with the integrated Intel 82825 or whatever it is graphics chip and had the problem with the game crashing after a couple seconds of playing. I read through a bunch of threads and eventually made it work.
First I ran defragmenter, then I ran scan disk, then I installed the game and ran it with the graphics settings maxed out but with the boxes unchecked. I didnt try those things individually so I dont know which item or combination is what worked. The only bad part is that it runs a little slow with the graphics maxed out (but not too bad). But I played for 4 hours with no crashes. I still have the T1000/Predator camo problem but the game is playable. Now, if I could just get the Numlock to stay on, I'd be all set.

Nah, I'm completelly stuck. My game is freezes on one point. Cannot do anythin. I hope they will fix this issue quickly. I cannot play the game at my workplace on those darn machines, aaarghhhh! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />

At home... It's a different pirate story. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Intel 82855 Graphics Adapter. It seems to run fine actually, but then i t crashes at a random position. I'm using an ASUS A3827NLP laptop computer. This is such a pity... I do hope Firaxis is able to present a fix for this real soon now.

<a href="http://ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=438260" target="_blank">http://ataricommunity.com/forums/showthrea...threadid=438260</a>
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> so, this means we are all on our own for these issues (at least for now).

When this game crashes it is always when loading another screen (city screen->visit tavern).

I had the same problem. Thanks to some suggestions on this board I am now sailing smoothly. For me I upgraded my video driver (Intel 82845), then change these user settings:
Display Shadows to 0
Trilinear Filtering to 0
Disable Shaders to 1
Object Detail to 2

These settings were quickly changed by going to Start/programs/Firaxis games/config.ini
Don't forget to save your changes!

By the way, I am running a Pentium 4, 384 MB Ram, Windows XP

Sail on!

<!--QuoteBegin-KrisTof+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(KrisTof)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->With the INTEL cards, just boost all the graphic options to the maximum (you can still leave out the shadows).

It surprisingly works great after that. Before, I couldn't play more than 3 mns, now I can play without crashes.

I also get the crappy character mapping as in the first post but at least I can play the game.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Scuse my ignorance, but how do you do that?!?!?!

(Boosting all graphic options to the max).
