Fixed Crash with escort quest

I have also detected that when you are going to do an escort quest, and you accept it, the game always crashes. Not sure if it is of my corrupted saves or anything else.
 
Pieter, try to update it ASAP into this thread. Thanks for the help.
I want to, but my own game version needs a bit more work before it is ready for community use again.

my relations in the game is all screwed up although no matter what flag I fly, after 3-5 seconds I auto become enemy to whomever ship I am around..
You can't be using the most recently posted version then; that one has false flag detection completely disabled.
Anyway, that part of the code is very much a work in progress.

Wha? Not normal! Yuo have any error logs?

But.... Those changes weren't yet in the game at that time, were they?

I was thinking it was nation-related because the game would try to find an enemy nation for the ship to place at the destination and failed.
That only has a 50% chance of happening and might explain the "sometimes works, sometimes doesn't" situation.
This will need to be double-checked once I'm done with them relation things.
 
@HellSailor could you please check with the new update if this problem is still present for you? And if so please provide a safe before it happens
 
For this to be tested properly, there should be an enemy generated at your destination.
Then we'll know for sure it is OK again.
 
Ok, now there isn't any crashes to escort quests. Also, the amount of money you earn by doing this is also more profitable. (Tested with the latest patch and EXE).
On the other hand, @Pieter Boelen , you said there should be an enemy ship waiting for me on the port of destination. Well, no pirate enemy ship was there. It is supposed to happen some times only?

@Levis did some work on the distance calculation to give you a fair fee on both short and long trips.
Glad to hear it is actually serving some purpose at long last.

Yes, there is a 50% chance of that now. After all, if you're escorting anyone, there had better be a risk of being targeted too! :cheeky

Might still need some balance but I think it's fairly good now :).

Not until you DID get an enemy ship at the end without a crash.
The only thing that I think might have caused that is the placing of that ship because my nation relation rewrites caused incompatibility with it.
So I'd like to know if that is now back to normal with my latest updates.
 
Ok, I will continue to test it again once more; But because the skills for me are absolutely slower, I will have to use cheatmode in order to have a chance against that pirate :p

Remember that also the skills for other characters are slower now ;). Everyone is victim to the same skill increases. Only special quest characters might have higher skills as theire level will allow. But all other characters will have exactly the amount of skills as theire level allows them to have.

Also, the ship generated takes into account your own level, so that generally it might be doable.

Was fencing touched a bit, Levis? Because I tihink it is "too slowly to progress", but this is just my personal opinion. I consider it an important skill to develop and progress quickly than the others.
Btw, Fencing can be also improved by other officers? Such as a boatswain or a master at arms, for example?
 
I made the xp gain for fencing a bit faster. Could increase it more if needed, but the code is all over the place.

If everything goes well officers should also get xp when fencing and if you have shared experience in your party everyone will get a piece. When fencing with 3 officers this means you almost have a doubling of the xp you get cause they all contribute some of theire xp to you too.

For fencing the xp you get is linked to the difference in level between you and your opponent. The larger the difference the more xp. It's also based on the damage you do. So having a better blade will give you more xp.
 
Excellent feature! I was doing an escort quest from Barbados to Martinique and in Martinique I fight against an spanish sloop which was hostile to me (I boarded it and tried to win, but because I was a noobie captain, I died. And I don't like to be dead when fighting against the captain...). :rumgone

Anyway, Now It is confirmed that it works correctly :yes
