Crashes before even loading.

I bet this has been covered before(I tried to search but it's a bit thick with results that didn't result in answers) but the game crashes(un modded). I have debuginfo set to 1 and it doesn't generate an error log. It seems to crash on the initialization screen when it trys to 'initialize Directx 8'.

This computer is an athy 2400+ running 1gb of ram with a Geforce FX5600 and Directx 9.0c on Windows XP.

Edit: If I run it in windowed mode I get the windows dialog to come up... It gives me this error in the detailed information...

"AppName: engine.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: wmvcore.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.4487 Offset: 00009819"

Try this: Download my MODULES folder <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/modules.zip" target="_blank">here</a> and extract it on top of your own MODULES folder. Some people have had the game crashing because of a corrupt MODULES folder. Please note: My MODULES folder is based on an European installation with Build 12 on top. If the game crashes still, install the Build 12 modpack on top and try to run it.

I copied over the MODULES directory with the one in your file and installed the Build 12 pack... Still does the same thing. What stinks is before I lost my discs when I moved the game worked fine(the first time I had it installed). I recently re-bought the game and tried to re-install it.

I really dislike how when I buy a game it doesn't work.

My suggestion is to totally <u>uninstall</u> it & wipe it completely from your hard drive then reboot the system & then install a fresh game. Add whatever builds, updates , etc you want & try again.

Where else, besides the main dir, are files hiding for this game? I checked pretty much everywhere possible but I don't think I got everything.

The registry. But cleaning the registry is not something we can talk you through on a forum. Uninstalling the game will remove the registry entries.

On a whim I tried installing the game on a different drive... AND IT WORKED! So now I'm playing the game with build 12 and I must say... I missed this game. It may depend if your system is within the system requirements to play the game.



The System Requirements are :

Pentium III 800Mhz or greater
GeForce2 level graphics card
128 MB RAM; recommended 256 MB
Windows 98\2000\XP

I recall other people having an intel graphics card, but the game simply doesn't seem to support it. I am not entirely sure about it, but I think it's because of the GFX card. You can try installing newer or older drivers; maybe it works. Otherwise, get another graphics card.

Shame really, that the game doesn't support some graphics cards. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I had this same problem until I upgraded my Graphics Card to a GeForce 6200v+ 256Mb DDR2, then it was awesome....lol
