Crashes

Bismarck

Sailor
Good day, fellow pirates!

I sometimes encounter a rather annoying problem. If I enter or leave the sea map, the game sometimes tends to crash.
This error is either caused by start.exe or dx8render.dll and it really angers me, but luckily I save often so the gameplay loss is minimal.

Do others encounter this crash too?

What could be done?

My computer:
AMD Athlon XP 64 3200+
2x1024 DDR1-RAM
Ati x1600 Pro 256 RAM
Windows XP Home

Could it be the copy protection? It would not be the first time that it causes problems.
Maybe I should try something. After all, I have bought the game legaly on eBay and I demand a stable software.

This is not a protection.
1. What is the size of the paging file??? 1,5-2 more than RAM needed.
2. I've heard about the problems ATI 1600 series. Not working 3-D mode. Not СoAS problem.
You can try in the ATI options "application management".
3. CoAS not stable on overclocked systems.

1. What do you mean with paging file?
2. My graphics card was very cheap, but it does excellent work. Even the bad programmed RCT3 runs smoothly.
3. I don't overclock my system.

1. swop file;
2. AA and AF Options - "Let the application decide";
"Support DXT texture formt" - check or uncheck.

Could graphics card overheat?

Edited:
Remembered. Fragmented hard drive can lead to crash. Especially when moving between locations. There is a need to defragment the disk.

Defragging is a MUST as I learned the hard way. Now I check my Defrag every few days and even when Windows says "You do not need to defrag now", if there is so much as a red line I defrag. Yeah thats a little overkill but I just put it on defrag and go do something else in the house, as it sometimes takes awhile.

It does PAY to defragment your hard drive. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

This does not need defragging but there are a couple red lines and since I'm heading to bed I'll start the defrag now. Good night. <img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/snore1.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
