Crashing & Metallic/Missing Textures Solution

These solutions are for people having the following problems:

1) The game is constantly crashing, most notably on startup right after the atari logo while it's attempting to load the main menu;

2) The game is missing textures for people, resulting in brown, metallic, `semi-transparent` figures...most notably your main character and the dutch man on the screen where you are supposed to choose your nationality.

<u><b>ATI and NVIDIA Graphics Card Users </b></u>
As far as I can tell the best solution is to replace your drivers with the ones present at www.omegadrivers.net . At the moment I believe this will only apply to people with ATI and Nvidia Graphics Cards.

<u><b>Intel Graphics Chipset Users </b></u>
For people who have Intel Graphic Chipsets the following should work for you. Go to www.`tommti-systems`.com/`main-Dateien`/files.html and download the 3DAnalyzer program. Use the program to "Emulate Hardware TnL caps." This should allow you to play the game although you may still have issues with missing textures. This SUCKS, but at least the game is playable and at the moment seems to be the only viable option.

This information was taken from a number of different sources, and I can't really take credit for most of it. I just wanted to compile it all here because so many people seem to be having problems. Let me know if these work/don't work for you.

I was having both of the above problems, and at first I used the 3DAnalyzer program to get past the crashing, then I switched to the Omega Drivers and was blown away. The game works perfectly. No crashing, no missing textures, no slowdown. Perfection.

I downloaded and installed those Omega Drivers, for my Ati Radeon, but the "metallic" bug is still here.

As you can see it happens on some cinematics, and in almost all town events for the main char (taverns, dancing, speaking with govs et cetera). The only town event that does not suffer from this little thingie is the duel against the captain bothering the barmaids.

I saw this happening also, but in rare cases, with a couple of famous pirates, and in the last duel with montalban (it did not happen during the duel itself, but while reviewing the cut scene, his skin becomes like those T. 2000 creatures).

I don't have any crashing problems, only this one, wich is annoying but does not spoil the game.

So, anyone really resolved this bug with those omega drivers? And in that case, would he post here his card settings please? I tried many different settings for compatibility, but it seems always the same...
 
You've probably done this already but try fiddling with the settings. Like turning shadows and Advanced Lightning off etc... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
 
Yeah, I already done it, trying different `in-game` settings, even turning all to off (from the menu and manually from config.ini).
I also tried to set the direct3d card settings to full performance, full quality, or various custom settings, but i don't see any changes. And those skins remain as in the screenshot. (I had the feeling that with shadowing turned off, strangely, the game slows down a little, but i'm not sure).

Btw, i'm happy to see how the game runs well in terms of performance on a really low end machine (i tried it on a old pII 433 and, well, not smoothly, but it works quite well). I experience that skin problem, however, both in the old PC and in the one i commonly use for gaming, far more powerful, but with the same kind of graphic card (Ati Radeon).

Since i have anyway to buy a newer card soon, i'm wondering if someone has really solved this problem with those omega drivers (and how exactly they made it work), or if the only hope for those users is to wait for a firaxis patch. Apart from Pirates!, i was always satisfied with Radeon cards, and if a solution to this bug is possible, i would stay with those products (decent performaces at not too expensive prices).

For mewith intel card i call the hotline and they said me to run msconfig.exe, unable win.ini , system.ini and all run boot elements the fourth line.
It works, but always mettallic textures
That's just another solution
 
the prob to the metalic textures lies in the do not correctly working `EnTNL-unit` of pirates! does someone of you inform atari about that thing? will there be a patch?

Anyone know what might be the problem? Anyone experiencing the same problem?

My graphic card is Intel 855GME. I use a laptop, is this not good enough to run the game? I know nothing about computerstuff so even the most obvious hint will for sure be helpful.

The game still crash with the latest Omega Drivers.
Many times when I am at the shipwright the screen become black, seem to return to desktop but then freeze at all.
I can return to Windows but the system is very choppy, slow, a really piece of crap.

I had the strangest graphic problems with a lot of the picture missing but when I installed the driver recomended above it solved all my problems!

I tried disabling win.ini and systenm.ini and it did not work. What does "running all boot elements the fourth line" mean?
 
I tried that program and it didnt work.
All my friends have asked me about this game and i have told them not to get it, well not untill they fix this problem.
Even with games on xbox now we are used as beta testers befor xmass.
