ok,.im workingat the moment with the gm-viwer,..that goes,..the the ships also with texcolors,...but i start now the texconverter,...i tryed to import the tx boat.tga.tx,..and i clicked convert,..but notihng m,noting are doing

There is a wiki over in the POTC forums that gives some info, but alot of it is trial and error. Programs you will need are gm_viewer, txconverter and a graphics editing program. I use GIMP because it is free and pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. Photoshop is another popular one. You need to convert the .tx files using the txconverter. (I.E. boat.tga.tx would become boat.tga) Once you do that you can open it up in GIMP and begin work. If you've ever used MS Paint or a program like that it is similar although MUCH more powerful. The texture is stretched over the model already so all you need to do is change colors, blend areas, add items or whatever your little heart desires. I often will take photos of things such as a statue and the copy them into it and resize them so that they fit on the model correctly. I even used a photo of a womans necklace as gold braiding for decorations on a ship railing. Of course, there are simply to many tips and idea for me to share here. If you are interested, google GIMP (or photoshop) and you can see what other people do and how they do it. It should give you additional idea. Mostly, it is all just trial and error until you learn what you are doing. Good luck! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

As far a modeling goes, I don't know too much about that, and from what I hear, you're pretty much out of luck unless you can get your hands on Maya 4.5 which is very expensive and obsolete.

big thanx doober for ur massage. i tried to work with the txconverter but out of luck. when i browse to the folder where the file boat.tga.tx is , is not shown the file boat.tga.tx. practical idea? it shown only the folder where the file ist but not the file about herself. And when is the convert sucsessfull where i can find the file?

If I recall correctly, you open the converter, there are two columns, one on the right and one on the left, you find the .tx files in the right one, click on one and then click convert. It should appear as a .tga file on the left. I do remember having some difficulty when I first did it and there was some setting I had to change when I clicked convert in order to get it to work properly. If I get a chance, I will pull it up this evening post more specifically.

ok it works,...lol i took it from left to right , thats< why i diddnt see anything tx files on the left side,...they are on the right side ,........tx from the right side in tga to the left side.

Ok that was skinnig.thank u Doober.

whats happen to create a own ship with hull on the other stuff,..wich programm du u use for this work.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand your question, are you asking about modeling a new ship? To model a new hull for a ship, you would need to use a modeling program like Maya 4.5 or Blender. Unfortunately, I don't know much about that.
If you are asking about texturing the hull, you would need to find the file for the hull. I've only worked in POTC and in there, they are called bortoutfrigate1.tga.tx or a name similar. It may be slightly different in AOP. You would you a program like GIMP for this work. If you reword your question, I may be able to give you a better answer if this did not answer it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

yes Doober,.....a new ship model,.....skinning is now thank ur help no problem for me yet.

many thans for ur attantion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

have u tried to model a new ship with new hull and mast?

maya.--Blender mhm,...have u a little bit experience with this progs? have erver been worked with this programs?

I have tried to learn Blender, but without much success. Maya 4.5 is the only program to use if you want the collision detection to work, but it is almost impossible to find. There are only a few people who have been able to actually model ships from scratch.

I've managed modelling from scratch in 3ds max 7 and I have heard its even easier in 3ds max 8. 7 requires some fiddling. When i've made a complete guide to ship modelling i'll post it but I'm afraid alot of it depends on the program your using.

Feel free to ask me about max 7 (maybe 8 - i've never done it but I think I know how it works)
