Dedicated Bug Reporting Thread BUILD 12

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> Thanks Nathan. I´ll try it tomorrow, since it´s too late to try it now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Greetings! A long time lurker and occasional poster here with a Build 12 issue. Every build up until this one has worked flawlessly for me, and I commend you all for your amazing efforts at making this game the gem it should have been in the first place!

When I run Build12.exe I get this error message:

"An Installation of "Pirates of the Caribbean" was not found on this system. Please make sure that POTC is installed and functioning before installing this build."

Which I suppose would make sense if I didn't have POTC installed, but I do. Heck, I'm even running the Build .exe in the directory that I have POTC installed in. I had originally thought that perhaps there was a problem in the registry settings (as my POTC game files are not in the place I originally installed them to) but have not been able to find any registry settings at all relating to POTC. Am I just going to have to reinstall the game and start over?

Yep, you have to have the right registry settings.
You need to go to HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall
{some really long CLSID number}
It should say in the right pane:
DisplayName Pirates of the Caribbean
LogFile C:YOUR POTC PATH
UninstallString RunDll32 C:pROGRA~1COMMON~1INSTAL~1engine6INTEL3~1Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:YOUR POTC PATHPCUninstallSetup.exe" -l0x9

Replace YOUR POTC PATH with whatever the new path is.
You can find this entry usinf Edit->Find and type in your _old_ POTC path.

Nathan, de path de Installer be lookin' at in de Registry be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionApp PathsEngine.exe and check the value of the Path string. Make sure it be de same path as de current PotC install itself. Least dis be de path used by de Update mechanism. Mad Jack kin prolly clarify further.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I don't seem to have that registry key - searches using the strings "pirate" "bethesda" and "caribbean" have all come up empty. Additionally, a quick scan through all the keys identified by CLSIDs revealed that it is not among them. I tried to create a new key for it from scratch using the information you posted here, but to no avail. I think the installer is looking for a specific CLSID, which I found on your forum ({`C1157104-1574`-`4BD2-99C7`-0AAB5DF4275F}). However, this did not work either. I further found that my PCUninstall directory is empty, which does not seem like a good sign.

I think am just going to reinstall the next time I can get my hands on the disks, which should be early next week as I am out of town at the moment.

EDIT:

Fred Bob, thank you! I did not have the Engine.exe registry key in my app paths, but I created the key and I no longer get this message.. Downloading the update now!

Ah, sorry, thought it was the uninstall path that was being checked. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

Every time i start a new game I just get a black screen.
I don't have a euro version.
I don't think I had any trouble with the install (I was asleep at the time).
When i had Build 11 it all worked fine.

Thank you for your time.

edit: I get the loading screen and then a black screen.

Yeah, that's the dialogue I usually choose for my reward. However since I installed v12, I'm not getting the 'I'm happy to serve...' line after I sink the first target ship; instead that line is replaced with the usual 'It's a pity...' (or whatever it is) line that closes out the dialogue.

I know how the dialogue is supposed to go, but it's just not doin' it presently. *shrugs* Oh well, I'll just have to deal with an open quest in my journal, I suppose...

Weird... AFAIK no one has messed with that dialog, so it should still be the same... ??? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<b>skull, </b>I have been able to tell an officer to change HIS clothes - choosing from the clothing I've bought from a tailor... This is YOUR clothing you're changing, right? I'll go off and see if I can reproduce your tailor error, to try to figure out what's wrong... No, didn't have any trouble changing my clothes - if you ask Fred Bob, he's got the whole gamut of choices from the tutorial, I left his dialog like that - but if you ask a `tavern-hired` officer "about me", you will get to choose from the clothes you bought from the tailor. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> So I don't know why you're getting this error. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Catalina, I'll have a go, but I'm currently having problems. The ENGINE.exe terminated unexpectedly at the Storm Engine 2 loading wave screen. DAMMIT

Which one is the "codename" for the Frigate MM, can anybody tell me?

Congratulations to everyone for completing Build12 I'm sure that it must be very enjoyable to play.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for localised or `non-US` versions of the game.

Like Dway the Build installer could not open BuildSettings.h even though it is not read only and like Toxotai I get a blank screen when I try run the the game.
What actually happens is that you get the usuall POTC loading screen and then it flickers very briefly between that screen and the main menu and then just goes black. I have tried clicking things but nothing seems to work.

I believe that these two problems are probably caused by the same thing, but the modhelper is being very unhelpful as its not logging any errors. I'll have try to use the error logging from engine.ini

BTW this is with a clean installation of POTC and I have changed the EURO switch to 1.

I suggest that no one who is running a non US version of POTC use this mod until we can work out exactly what the problem is. I'll try a few things here and see if I can get it working and post my results later today.

I think that I've found out why the installer says that it can't open Buildsettings.h and that is because it has to open BuildSettings.h
I know that they are the same file but I suspect that the installer has problems handling capitalisation of a character in a file name.

I have also tried what NK suggested on the first page of this thread:
<!--QuoteBegin-NathanKell+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Try this.
Make a ZIP of all the files in your PROGRAM folder.
Then, delete them all (but keep the zip).

Then install the build.

Then go through and extract all the files from the zip that you do _not_ have in the folders under PROGRAM (you will probably have to do the folders one by one, unless you're using WinRAR or something that's intelligent about overwriting/not overwrite). I.e. extract from the zip but overwrite _nothing_.

That should get you working.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
But with no joy.

I suspect that after trying and failing to open up the BuildSetting.h file the installer is meant to do something else to finish localising the POTC installation.

I have run the tracefiles option and it logged that POTC couldn't open the Usurers.c and Item Traders.c files. I checked the installation and for some reason these are missing, I copied these over from the back up PROGRAM folder.
Now POTC fails to come up with an error log, but it does have a compile and system log.

The compile log is:

Perhaps there are some other files that are needed to be downloaded or modified after the intaller changes the EURO setting.
As an experiment I tried running the installer again but without setting the European version. The installer finished and even downloaded an update, but even after I went into BuildSettings.h and set EURO to 1 the same problem occurs.

I suppose that I could try unstalling POTC and then in a clean installation run the Build12 installer without using the Eupoean version and see if that works OK. But that's something that I won't have enough spare time to do until next weekend.
