Did I miss anything?

SwordmanBob

Landlubber
Hi to everyone its been awhile. I checked out the forum when POTC first came out and stayed with it for a little while (till build 8 or 9) but have been busy for awhile (landlocked). I wanted to try and develop my sea legs again and heard about new characters, swords, pistols, items and ships. I have tried to install the AlanSmitheeMods but have encountered lots of difficulty. Has anyone installed it successfully? If so can you lend me a helping hand?

“The art of sword fighting is much like the art of painting. Life is your canvas, the different sword strokes can open a man's flesh in a variety of ways. A jab here and a thrust there can create the most intricate wounds. Therefore choose your brush carefully, keep it clean, develop ability and only display your talent when forced to.”

Umm mate, did you try to install the Buid first? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Yes, I downloaded build 12.1 the full version and then AlanSmitheeMods. Are AlanSmitheeMods it included in build 12.1?

I suggest you grab Pieter's modpack.
<a href="http://millenniumdock.bravepages.com/storage/others/potcmods.htm" target="_blank">http://millenniumdock.bravepages.com/stora...rs/potcmods.htm</a>
Install 12.1
Install the full pack from the link (48.5mb) (first file)
Install the update from the link (~2mb) (second file)

Then start a new game, and away you go!

(It includes Alan's mods and many others, and is 12.2 in all but name)

Actually: <i>Don't</i> install the update. It doesn't really include much improvement; instead of that, it includes some changes that aren't finished yet and actually cause more bugs than they solve. Will be solved soon, I hope.

Wow! So far I have had the opportunity to play for a few days and the playing is wonderful! The swords, pistols, and general game play is outstanding. There has been an abundance of additions sense b9. The addition of blacksmith, new swords and classification to swords (good, fine etc.) is brilliant. I will probably need a few months of play in order to take in all the changes. By the way, how does one get into a duel?

" Which is worse, a dull sword and sharp skills or dull skills and a sharp sword? Yes"

I don't know anything about getting into a duel. For all I know, that won't happen. You might have to fight people and there might be some quest duels (like fighting against Nigel Blythe on QC), but I don't know about random duels. I know there was the idea to add that into a mod, but I don't think it's anywhere in there yet.

BTW: The PotCMods update does work quite fine now. Some bugs were fixed (including the very annoying tailor's shop bug, causing the tailor's to not work) and some small improvements were added again.

Good news on that update, Pieter, thanks! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Glad you're having a good time with the mods, SwordsmanBob!

Speaking of Bob's - you should go find Fred Bob on Falaise de Fleur and hire him on as your boatswain. There's a good quest attached to it (says the mightily biased quest author, haha!). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Talk to Orable Caron on the FdF port beach. He's standing next to the stairs to the harbormaster's office - he'll ask you for a coin to tell rumors, then talk your ear off, but be patient - keep asking for more, he'll eventually tell you about Fred Bob... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I encountered a duel on FDF. A guy in the tavern owed money to the bartender, I paid his tab even though the bartender suggested I not. As I was leaving FDF, he and I had it out. Another kind of duel was on another island where a pirate was holding this mans daughter hostage and its your task to save her. The duel is between you and the pirate on the deck of his ship. Occasionally there is a drinking incident in a tavern (who ever thought drinking and fighting would go together) where after a few drinks a duel may ensue between you and a soldier. Especially with the tavern situation could some of these situation not be duplicated elsewhere with the choice of the different weapons (swords, pistols, fists)? Or how about a duelling quesr where one seeks out a sword master to help his/her develop their proficiency in sword combat? In the very beginning of the game, that's what the first mate seems to be doing.

A couple times and I don't know why the game has crashed. It seems to be whenever I am going to sea from an island.

When you're about to head to your ship, hit the "T" key, I think that may help the crash problem.

I am contemplating a duel-type situational quest... It's much in the future, and tied into gambling at the taverns and my own game avatar (not sig or forum) who is a real-life historical person in the Caribbean.
